Hi all, some new photos of the pump and stuff..

Firstly, a while back I made a remote TPS mount from my TPS module which was kindly replaced by one Huggiebear supplied.

Here is what it looked like internally after I chopped off the end plug, removed the circuit board and wired up the cable for the remote connection.

Image

And here it is back together... filled with silicon and the unit araldited closed.

Next is my new water to air intercooler pump.. this baby should last as long as the car as it's basically a thermo fan motor with a small centrifugal fan on the end.. simple and zero dollars. The bracket is gold because thats the only color I had left in my shed.. but it'll be enclosed in a small box anyway so a moot point. Wish I had a variable speed controller for this thing though..

Finally, here is the water to air system as it stands now.. The white thing in the pic is the Whale pump.. it's tiny and will probably only get used when the throttle is flat to the floor as an extra flow booster.
Also you can see the air con cooler I'm using to cool the water down at the front., the only things that I don't have yet are a secondary holding tank for more water, and also I chopped up the 10 inch thermo I was going to use on it for the motor to drive the pump so need to scrounge another one to cool the radiator at peak periods.

I had originally purchased this:

Which is now superseeded by the water to air system so I'll be selling it to fund the new diff/gearbox/suspension etc.. I've been saving my dollars too, so just about ready on that front also..

Anyone in Perth want a brand new giant air to air intercooler??? :-)

It works!!!!

I did some more work on the pump today.. cut some washes out of an old radiator hose and rubberised all the mounting points.

I was not able to do a full test because I've yet to figure out how to adapt the 1.25 inch inlet pipe to the 1/2 inch intercooler plumbing.. but I did test the general effectiveness of the pump.

I put a radiator hose onto the big inlet and hooked up a bottle of water to feed it.

Then attached piping to the outlet and made it so the pump had to pump the water up 1.5 feet under pressure..

Fired it up and for the brief period it was getting enough water, it shot it more than a foot over the end of the outlet pipe. so there is heaps of good pressure there.

Also it's quiet.. made no more noise than an aquarium air pump. (humming)

worked out really well, I'm stoked....

just need to work out how to adapt the 1.25 inch pipe down to 1/2 inch and I'm done with it.

got any pics of the end bits you want to connect?
might be worthwhile to ring the hydraulic or hose specialist to see if the have any reducers.

yeah.. will have to do something like that..

If I'd thought of it... I'd have looked in all the washing machines as they might have had something adaptable...

welding actually..

been fixing the rust so that when I get all the bits I can just get it all on the car...

so glad I bought the Mig when it was on special..

Also I did a custom dash face and some other mods... Its been wet and rainy here and my wife insisted I finish fixing up the Sierra so we can sell it...

Life keeps intruding on my grandiose plans..

Still the engine is all ready to go.. the water to air intercooler system is tested and working..

When I get a moment, I'm going to go and pick up the diff, 5spd and entire EL front end.. and then I take a week off work and put it all in in one hit..

Look Forward to it as it was somthing I was going to do to my old EL XR6 but never did. Have you seen the green one going around Perth with the huge Whipple on board?

It was running a bit rough on this night. Infact you probably heard it cough a little down the quater. He was also struggling with his launch control system. If your ever at the Plex and see him down there, his name is Ron and he is great to talk to. Lots of knowelage.

I hadn't seen that one no...

he spent allot more money than I plan to though...

I'm really only aiming for 10ish PSI and maybe 225-250 rwkw.... plus I want mine to look totally standard....

What do you mean by "Launch contrrol system"?
Do you mean traction control or just line lockers?

Okay, Ron's setup is huge. Something like $30K and a lot of hours. And as you can see, its quite a complex setup. Normally he runs very low 10's and he is only running 15PSI. The whole car is setup for nothing but drag racing but it is still street registered. Off memory, it has Melville Cricket Club plates on it. He is running a complete Motec after market ECU setup (with the instrument cluster similar to the V8 super cars.) The Motec comes with a launch control system that basically lets him hold his foot flat on the accelerator pedal, and whilst his foot is on the brake, it will only let him rev up to a preset RPM. This lets him dial up boost without moving. As soon as he takes his foot off the brake, the limiter is removed and off he goes. Really cool system if your into drag. It basically allows him to not worry about trying to hold RPM by playing the accelerator pedal. I hope this makes some sort of sense.

Yeah, it does make sense.. very cool but out of my league because I don't want to run an aftermarket ECU (I'm looking at using J3 port to modify a XR6 bin file to suit my needs based on AFR from some dyno runs.)

I don't understand how the control thing would work.. if the foot is flat to the floor and the ECU stops the fuel and retards to stop it reving its ring out.. wouldn't the engine then run massivly lean (because the throttle buttifly is wide open) and be damanged? or is it a fly by wire throttle?

No, it sequentialy cuts the spark (Which is why you don't hear any valve bounce.) When the throttle is wide open, it allows the super charger to breath freely. Its a pretty complicated system that I don't fully understand myself but a pretty cool system non the less.
