Having fun now.

OK, turns out this is going to be easier than I expected. I've installed the engine part of the remote oil filter kit.. and I did some playing and made a very interesting discovery.

**** With an EA-ED air con bracket installed on the EL motor with the BBM manifold.. the Eaton M90 supercharger fits right in the gap. *****

All I had to do was grind off one under hanging mounting point for a stabilizer bar and the very front bottom of the BBM (about 1cm off) and in she went.

I have to make a mounting bracket yet, but I got excited when I saw it because it means I get to keep my air compressor where it belongs.

Front view. The belt is not right obviously, and I will need a longer one to have air con and charger..



Side view so you can see where the oil filter was (the loop of hose is from the re-locator) That area is where the outlet of the charger goes so I can run it straight to the intercooler with a very short and mostly hidden bit of pipe. You can also see how there is a ton of space where the inlet is as well and my bracket is well positioned to feed that from an EL air box when I find one.



Before, it was mostly speculation and some rough measurements. Now however, I am positive that I can get this done and working in that position. And it didn't require any major mods other than the oil filter relocation.

pretty good fit there mate, Id be trying to fab up some sort of heat shield otherwise the charger is going to get pretty hot beside the block like that on the longer trips.

Dont know how much the extra heat will effect its reliabilty otherwise.

Its a supercharger, so it generates its own heat, compressing air gets things pretty hot all by itself.

On the commodores these things are actually bolted to the valley of the engine block and get less cooling air to boot. Down under the BBM it should get more cooling air then anywhere else I could put it. Also, it should get a pretty good flow of air as it's directly in line with the passanger thermo fan and less than a foot away.
It is also not bolted directly to the engine.. I'm making a bracket template now.

belt slips going to be your worst prob ,good fit though may need idler to get wrap around the blower pulley , brought my belt goodyear gatorback from summit racing usa , check out goodyear site to get part no , sold in half inch lengths

I was thinking belt slippage would be an issue, but I might be able to change the way the belt wraps around everything to get around that.. will see..

then you dont really want any more heat banking up on it... the valley in a veesix would get some of the air that comes from front end wash it over when moving. not to mention inlet manifold would help scrup temp out of where they sit, since theres a large volume of moving air going through there constantly.

look, it might not affect it at all, just trying to think ahead and limit possibilities of failure.

worth a look at considering its very close to the block which being iron will get hotter than alloy heads or anything else. also will store more radiant heat which will bring on soak faster.

I may be wrong but you wouldnt want me to be right without some thought being given to it prior.

Fair enough.. But it isn't actually that close to the block to be honest.. remember, there is a Dizzy between it and the block, so it basically sits between the BBM and the Air Con.. (it is touching both) and its at least 3 inches from the actual block...

Plus like I said.. the only way you could flow more air over it, would be to mount it external to the engine bay.. it has a fairly decent thermo fan pointed right at it a foot away.

the charger looks like it is on slight angle leaning backwards ? is this just due to it restign for the pic?

if ya can get a ed air con idler like i have used it gives the option to tension the belt and lock it off so the spring tensioner runs where it should, i changed the idler pulley to a ba aftermaket one its wider than stock

Its on that angle because it was just sitting there, the bracket I'm fabricating should hold it straight and true.
