kk just in the few last choices as to what turbo and plenum im going to run on my car, but have the question to ask tho

who in melbourne has had an oil return tapped into there sump

who did you get to do it or is it easy enough to do yourself.

I have a sump sitting on my bench polished up ready to go but have no idea how to really go about it.

Hey,

Are you going to be swapping sumps??? Ford in their infinite wisdom (prolly a good reason) pressed the sumps with a double wafer thin skin, so welding it is tricky, but possible. I would suggest you put a bulkhead type fitting in it with o-rings to prevent leaks. Best bet is to silver-solder a fitting in.

Mig welding is fine with 15mm tube..
If you search the Vortech site on tech section it says how to punch hole in sump and make thread to screw in fitting with sealant...

thanks for the quick replys i have an EF motor in my EB so what ever sump an EF has i'll be using, have heard of the silver soldering method but didnt really understand.

this looks like the way to go thanks again!

I have a long bar with a point machined on the end. take off the RH wheel, stick the bar in the location I want and smash the end with a hammer on the end of the bar (which protrudes at the side of the car).

I make the hole the same size as the tube then I use that fuel tank repair putty to basically glue it in (the stuff you have to knead). easy and works well. No leaks and very strong


I have MIG, TIG, oxy, soldering iron but this is the best way IMO.

If sump is out of car I would of course TIG it.

ok what if the sump is in the car how do u put the return line in

If you have the sump on your bench its as easy as piss!

Just drill the hole!

I put a large magnet on the inside to catch all the shavings then welded a 1/2 inch fitting to the sump and screwed in a 90* barbed fitting into it. I used high temp silicon hoses as joiners and made up a steel pipe for the drain hose.

The barbed fitting and the 1/2 inch (i.d.) bung can be bought from enzed or pirtek for peanuts.

You can still drill the hole, you just need a 90* drill, then you take the dip stick out and get a friend with a air blower from your compressor to blow pressure (not too much) into the sump. You will pressurise the engine and hence blow out the shavings when your drilling so none will go into the sump :)

how does the fitting stay in the sump without taking thew sump off

weld it, its the only way to ensure no leaks and strength. With no accessories on that side of the motor you can do it.

I did what TurboTrana explained and it worked fine, no leaks. Good quality epoxy glue will be as good as a weld in this instance.

If it works then sweet as go for it i say. If the sump was on the car it would def be the easier option.
For my own mental reassurance i felt better with it welded, but my engine was out of the car. I have done what i said on another eb as we had the p/s pump and the alt off so we took advantage of the extra room :)
