How tight a fit is it? Not concerned about bonnet height, more clearance with strut towers etc... Are parts interchangeable between the small and big blocks? I have stuff all knowledge bout the big blocks and hoping someone can either show me pics of it done, or shed some light on the issue

Id would look into your local engineering requirements before going any further... I doubt it could be done in NSW (without going to the expense of building an ICV)

Personally why, you can build a small block based big cube motor that would be easier to get registered. A 351W dart block can be punched out to 480 cubbes if you have the coin. And when rego time comes, its "just a 351". Also have you ever seen the clearance on those things. I looked at an XT with a 460 and soke to the owner, it was a motor out job to change the plugs. Bugger that.
Check out http://www.coasthigh.com/SearchResults.asp They do 427W based engines that are just amazing fo rthe price Brett

I totally agree with TerroristGHIA
All the work to fit a 460 is just a waste of time as the benefits are very small if any. Build a nice 351 based engine with big block cubes and at least it will rev like a small block but with big block cubes.

It depends what you want to do with the car, but a big block will fit. I had a 429 in my XD, best thing I ever did. For the cost of a 351W Dart block, and all the work, parts reqd, etc to get 450+ cubes, you can spend less on a 460 and have 550+ cubes, and enough torque to pull down a building. Bulk torque, big HP, on a lazy, low compression, low revving, low maintenance monster cube engine. Just remember, there is no substitute for cubic inches.

This is an FE bigblock but they aren't much different in size although the FE is somewhat lighter than a 385 series engine.
Only the distributor off a 429/460 will interchange with a 351...everything else is different. http://www.perthfalcons.com.au/index.ph ... entry31137 |

Hmmm.....found a few pics of a 429 into a EA and while it certainly has some clearance issues, it certainly looks doable for a 460 with a couple of snails... Now next question... I vaguely remember seeing a e series a few years back that had had a front end conversion to old school holden to make more room for the engine...anyone heard or seen anything like it? Engine swap looks doable as is, but more room for turbo headers would be nice...

Well way to get a s**t suspension in one go!...it's only the biggest engine bay a Falcon has ever had. All you need do is make a tubular K-member, that would give you all the room you need without touching the towers. |

If a 5.4 Mod motor fits in there ?? A big block is a walk in the park !!!
Ahh what you can do with an angle grinder, hamer and mig welder...

E-Series has a bigger engine bay than previous Falcons, so if it fits in earlier ones....
A 460 is only 3in wider than a 302 Wheezer, or an 1.5in wider than a 302 Meatclever Height will be the only issue....

I am puting a 4.6 L into my 67 mustang by notching the towers and puting in a strut front end in and power rack from RRS ,cold work for you but it's not cheep .I was going to you's a lower wish bone front end from heidts rod shop in the USA but then seen the RRS struts which is much better set up.

Yeah plugs will be an issue for sure, but until i get a donor engine to check clearances i dont even wanna think about it
