Crane 2031 cam, AFR 205 or TFS highports or R series heads, Edelbock RPM, TFS track heat inlet, 75mm throttle body and 76 pro-m maf with 30Lb calibration for 30 Lb injectors, 255 Walbro intank pump and aftermart fuel rails...Aim for 9.5 to 10.1 compression... 3.9 diff ratio.. Maybe lower [4.1] if auto..Would need quiet but good exhaust.... But the LS1's pull heaps better than any factory windsor I've driven. Driven a friends VY SV8 manual a few times . I can tell you it has real go for a stock factory car with resonable fuel economy. ghiaman you just cant compare the 16 to the 5.0l to LS1,s theyre chalk and cheese theres an old saying ....theres no replacement for displacement and its proven true for all these engines both the smaller engines have longer intake runners small ports to keep torque to a max to keep competitive to larger motors ...ls1 check out the short runners on an ls1 ....they dont make big torque down low ...but make excellent power up top the 350 chev is the most popular motor in the world to modify = cheap parts and plenty to choose from the 5.0l is the second most popular motor ...theres over 35 different aftermarket heads you can get for a 5.0l thats where the 16 is limited ...IMO You can make a 5.0l compete with an LS1 ....but the point is do you want to drive a car that makes a lot of power up top and has to be constantly revved and has nothing down low and sucks gas or stroke the 5.0l?? you really need to decide what you want ...and how you want to drive it |

Yeah if u put it that way, it is almost double i suppose, but i never thought that it would actually 'feel' twice as quick, if u know what i mean. Maybe i might have to drive a car with 250ish rwkw to know exactly how it feels, and what to expect...
Sooo.. Anyone wanna offer me a 250rwkw car to drive for the day? ![]() Hey I have a windsor with about 130-140rwkw and also an XR6T with 310rwkw. They are both very different cars to drive. XR6T off boost is nothing special, on boost its frightening but every time i boot it, I sort of wince and hope the gearbox or the diff doesnt fall out of the car. Or the conrods dont come through the block. My 5.0L has much less power (top end) but so what... its crispy torque makes it a pleasure to drive. Even with less than half power, I still love driving it as much as the XR6T, but just in a different way.

Power on command is what the WINDSOR will be best remembered for. A well sorted windsor (without a stall up) is probably one of the quickest run of the mill small block v8's going around to about 120kmh.
Many people may disagree but from the many vehicles that I've driven (270 kw clubsport, E55 AMG) the windsor feels very toey. The I6 is a very good motor. No match for the WINDSOR *period* |
