Can anyone tell me if by using a block with 8.7" deck height, I'd run into trouble clearing the bonnet in an EL? Also, what would be the maximum stroke you could run in one?

I dont see having a bennet clearance issue unless u use a tall manifold and using a 8.7 deck block means ur off the shelf manifolds wont bolt straight on, u will have to do some machining to get it to fit. I think u may have issues with off the shelf extractors as well but i think there is room for them to move up closser to the chassic anyway.
I was looking at that block as well and for the trouble it may cause its not really worth it. 363 8.2" 4.125 bore 3.5crank 5.4 rods and a set of AFR205 with a hydrolic roller will see you over 500hp

Yeah, I was doing a heap of reading lastnight and you're right. It definately looks to be a PITA. Which block would you be running the 3.5 stroke? I'm looking at the Dart sportsman. I thought the max stroke on that was 3.4? That's what gets the 363.

You can order a Sportsman Block in 8.2 deck with 4.125 bores. Stock strke these come out at 330odd cubes and a 347 crank will get you 363 on that bore
Should set you back about 3500. High Performance World here in Sydney have one in stock Brett

I've got a 4.00" bore 8.200" DART Sportsman in stock if anyone is interested. ![]()

With a world products block at 4.125 x 8.2" and the right pistons you can get up to 371. Wouldn't have to modify the bonnet as it is still similiar to standard block height.

One Drone, the 302 is an 8.2" deck height block standard, 9.2" for 351 and aftermarket are 8.2"/8.7"/9.2"

I know it's standard, what I am suggesting is that if you don't want to have to modify the bonnet as a result of a block with a higher deck, you can get standard blocks that can stroke to 371.

You have to add spacers to inlet or as said custom manifold..
The 8.7 shouldn't add too much height that it cannot be fitted.. Depending on inlet height .. Some just make custom boxed upper with extended lower by adding trumpets, extending ports so torque isn't lost..Lower version of the TE50 inlet.. I doubt exhaust would suffer too much ?? Nothing that cannot be heated alittle and bent anyway..

NOt worrying about the 8.7 deck now. Was just curious. I've got my eye on a World block with 4.125 bore, but I'm thinking of using the 331 crank which will get me 347ci. Apparently this should produce a much smoother engine. Only problem with this block I'm looking at is the Cleveland mains, meaning sourcing a crank is a PITA. Anyone know where I can get one? Am waiting to hear back from World about them, but interested to know if anyone else supply them.
Looks like I'll need 351 dizzy and sump to run this block. Will it fit in my car with that sump?

Eagle and Scat make them.. Ring around..
VPW, Rocket etc.. The smaller main is better...

Yeah, but the price on this block is really good... the only reason I'm trying to make it work.
I'm not too sure about the 351 sump though. Will this fit in an EL?

on that block I hope you are intending on using the std 351 sump ??
Atleast use the Hi Energy sump.. They will know what fits... You may have to grind 12mm off each side of your crossmemeber for extra clearance..
