Managed to get my hands on an 80mm maf, got a couple of questions though. The style of plug on my stock maf compared to the one on my cobra 80mm are different. Is this a simple case of cutting the plug off that my old maf used and matching the colours up and joining the new maf's plug to the existing wiring or is it a touch more complicated then that?

What size fuel injectors is the 80mm one calibrated for? Thats another question you have to ask.
Possible you can removed the sensor from the 80mm one and put in yours if it fits. You'll have to get a dyno done to check air/fuel mix though. |

Will be on dyno straight after i get the throttle body and maf on and intake piping done. I think I will try and wire the cobra plug into my old wiring. thanks for your help Timmeh.

oops pressed the button a few too many times. Anyone else able to shed any light on whether it is possible to wire in new plug?

maybe you could make a short adaptor lead with the correct plugs on either end? if you decide on different maf then you havent cut the plug.

I think the 80mm MAF might be for 30lb injectors (red tops). If it is going to be tuned afterwards there should be no problem.

tuning wise i'm not really worried as the computer and tune will sort the calibration out. Pretty much just wanna know that the wires on my loom will be the same as the ones on the plug for the MAF.

Ahh here we go again.
Ford MAF's are not "calibrated" for any injector size. Without going in to all the detail (yet again) let me just ask what device you have got to recalibrate your EEC? You can buy adaptor harnesses and plugs to allow either MAF type to be connected. The pinout is in effect the same. What vehicle did this MAF come from and/or what are the numbers on it? Pete. |

Well thats what I thought (that they were not calibrated for any specific injector and that the EEC controls it?) CAPA eliminator is going to be my choice at the moment (not 100% sure yet). Where would i be able to get these adaptor plugs from?

Forgot to mention, I am unsure of what vehicle the MAF came out of, I was told it was an 80mm Cobra MAF. Numbers on it are F50F-12B579-AA AFH80-01A 5025.

Yes but which year Cobra. I've got a '96 Cobra 80mm MAF sitting here and it's got an F3VF engineering number. So this was first designed in '93 it's an ally housing. F50F means a '95 design. Is it plastic or ally? The correct transfer function for that MAF should be available to whoever tunes it with a switch chip. You should be able to use your early hotwire on the same body, eliminating the need for the different connector. Pretty sure BPT has the adaptor harnesses if you want to go with the newer hotwire electronics. |

ah I see, Its an alloy housing. I reckon I will use my current hotwire, just seems to be less off a headache I think. Cheers for the info, was very helpful, much appreciated.
