Don't bother....they don't make big hp and it doesn't matter how much hp the engine makes in the first place. But they do make 10-15hp and 12-18 lb/ft torque across the whole rev range, not just part of it. Or more correctly they free up that much by reducing the losses that occur with std pulleys. Pete. |

Will these things work on an AU S3 XR8. I seem to remember reading somewhere that were already underdriven on these models?? Anyone confirm or deny??

I've decided I'm going to go for the underdrives. It seems most people who have put them in are happy enough with them and have seen some change. I'm also going to be getting headers, 3" cats, a tweecer and dyno tune by the guys at BPT all at the same time so hopefully I should notice a bit of a combined difference!

Rather than start another thread, I thought I'd just hang off this one...
I've been looking around for the standard 1/4 mile figure for the series 1 EL XR8, but can only find the 15.6 which is listed for the series 2. would the 15 or so kw make any substantial difference to the time? The reason I ask is because I went to woopass tonight and was extremely disappointed with my figures. my best time was 15.994@86.62mph(139.4). I was expecting around a 15.6 or better with it having the exhaust. I could probably have cut a few more tenths off with a better launch but I ended up cracking the s**t and came home! Hahaha It either bogged down or bounced off the line. Couldn't find a happy medium! The motor is nearly 160,000km old so the fact that it's not exactly a spring chicken could have a negative effect on power? Anyway, by replacing the standard headers with DiFilipos and putting their 3" cats on as well, with the underdrives and the tweecer, should I expect much of a difference on the track or not? Would low 15s be unrealistic or unachievable? I'll be going back next Wed to find out, but am worried that I'm going to get there and be brutally disappointed again Almost every car I was beside was pulling 12s or 13s and they were all commodores! Except the 1985 or so n13 Pulsar sedan which looked like the biggest bucket of s**t but pulled a 13.1!!! That's when I decided to call it quits.

What type of exhaust do you have? I only have exhaust 2.5" and genie extractors and my fat fairlane will do 15 flats no worries.

What was your 60' time? You should be able to get that down to 2.2 on a good launch, or 2.1-2.0 if you aren't scared of REALLY riding the clutch.
General rule is that for every 0.1 sec you drop off your 60' time, you drop 0.2 seconds off your ET. For example, if you are currently running a 60' of 2.6 or higher, there is HEAPS of room for improvement. If you are already running a 60' of about 2.2-2.3, there isn't so much more room in it.

It's a Lukey 3" cat back with stock headers til Monday. Kilma - the 60' time was 2.523 which I know is pretty crap. I was thinking that I could better it by .2 or .3 when I get the launch right but thought even if I did it'd be just that .2 or .3 coming off the eleapsed time. There maybe so hope still then

2.5s are pretty horrid, is it auto or manual?
I'm assuming manual, in which case there is alot of room for improvement there. Theres probably a mid 15 in it, although your terminal speed is a bit low? (May just be WA, I think we get higher mph over here in vic) Headers will make a fair difference too, the factory ones are pretty restrictive.

Lots of room for improvement there. As I said in the general rule I mentioned earlier, you should be able to knock off about half a second easily when you get a good launch. Try a few different things next time too. Change your shift points and see how it effects your runs.

Got the headers, cats and tweecer fitted today.
The underdrives weren't available and the tweecer won't work on my computer! Spewing! Terry got it on the dyno and it was running lean as and wouldn't accept any changes he made to the pooter. It looks like I'm going to have to source another pooter that's going to work with the tweecer... When I've got the underdrives fitted and the tweecer sorted I'll have to update with some figures In stock mode and running pretty rough, got a power figure of 167.7rwhp

If Pete has it, BPT should as well I would have thought. They probably haven't cracked his catch code yet.
That was the problem with mine. Pete took a dump of the ECU, and now that they have cracked it, I don't have any cash. ![]()
