Hey guys, just got my first 8 and have done a dual 2 1/2 cat back exhaust & an ss inductions growler cold air. I'm about to have it flashed and tuned, just wondering if there is anything else (low key) i could do that could help me on my way to my target 250rwkw?

Id recommend getting a set of extractors and high flow cats on before you flash tune it.
Extractors made a good power gain on my AU. Dave

Yes get your extractors done first, then get the car flash tuned to suit with a custom tune for your car taking into account your mods, not an off the shelf tune. New oil pump gears are a wise investment too on the Boss motors.

As above with the mods.
230rwkw would be a good tune on it without going overboard. |

First thing i would do is ditch the Growler, get some billet oil gears first, extractors, BPR airbox, under drives then a tune.

Thanks guys for the advice.
I looked a little further into it - Pacemakers & magnaflow cats seem to be the go. Any suggestions?? are headers really such a big job as most are saying?! |

yeah depending on the headers you need to lift the engine up to fit them, there isnt alot of clearance between the guards and the heads

Get underdrives before you do anything else.

Pacemakers 4-1s are a easy to fit and good stuff as well. I fitted mine while the car was on the driveway. Easier to fit than pacies on a Holden 5.0L.

Get DiFillipo headers and cats , they are THE best when it comes to the BOSS. And yes doing headers is a big PITA, takes at least 4 hours if you know what you're doing and have a hoist. 230RWKW from a BF XR8 should be easy, so will 250 with the above. (also as already suggested, the BPR aka BluePower airbox is the way to go).

Another real good mod if you want to go faster, is get a shorter diff ratio.
You didn't mention if it was a manual or auto. But... Manual, go for 4.11:1 ratio Auto, go for 3.46:1 ratio. What is does is help the BOSS get into and stay in the peak revs more. Some of the best money to be spent right there.

is the 3v any different with regards to requiring the billet oil pump gears like the BOSS?
would you be able to achieve 230+ at the treads with the defilli's, 2x2.5 pipe, bpr box, underdrives and tune? is the 3v that much different to the boss other than the head/cam?

Bottom end is exactly the same (FPV BOSSes get better parts used and balancing)
If you're going for underdrives and more revs, then definately get the oil pump done too (when getting the underdrives saves on labour that way).

You'll easily achieve over 230kw with those mods.
The 3V has a higher volume oil pump already because it needs extra oil to drive the VCT. |

thanks for all the help guys.
So far - full system - headders, hi-flo cats & 2 1/2. SS inductions Growler cold air & vortex T/B ad. I am about to get a custom tune but thought i would ask the question about underdrive pullys. Has anyone had a set fitted to a six speed auto? Will it make much of a difference? Thanks |
