i have a el2 xr8 engine in my ef.. so explorer manifold, extractors etc. i have also added a au 65mm throttle body and maf. its an auto too. i'm on a pretty tight budget as i wasnt going to spend much on this thing lol.
i just got some gt40p heads so i'm going to chuck those on but i'm wondering what cam to get... this is a daily driver so i dont want it to use a heap of fuel.. was looking at a Crane 2030?? would this be ok with standard springs? is it really worth getting roller rockers?? cheers guys!

most guys on here use the crane so must be okay for a mild setup, have a look at isky cams similar specs good price. try get yourself some springs if you can afford too and leave the roller rockers for now, stock springs and rockers are good.

Any time you change a cam you should change the valve springs as well. Cams are designed to work with a specific amount of pressure on the valve springs and using the wrong spring rate or old, worn springs will either cost you power or wear out the new cam.
I personally think it's worth the extra money to get the roller rockers. Provides less valve train noise and if you get 1.7's you will essentially get more valve lift and more power. |

E303 cam is pretty good, and you can pick them up pretty cheaply, picked mine up for 250 i think.
But yes, def change springs, retainers, collets when putting new cam in, to suit cam aswell. if u bought the gt40p heads new with springs on them, still get new springs to suit

I ran my stock pushrods through 2 cam changes and then I revved it :( . Not a good practice but had a budget too. If you can afford a set for sure throw them in or otherwise save up for a good set and throw them in after, only couple hours work. Your already looking at 600 or 700 bucks already AT LEAST!! |

Its not a matter of wether the pushrods will be good enough to do the job is wether the pushrods are the right length to get correct rocker geometry which i doubt very much they will be.

I'd get a AU II XR8 200kw cam to go with your combo.
I've got a 220kw cam in mine which I believe is slightly less aggressive. Go the 200kw cam if you can get it or a cam with the same specs. |

I'm pulling 260rwhp with bigger injectors and a custom tune. I'd be guessing 220rwhp without a custome tune and injectors.

i'd definately say get a 2031 or a nice comp cams grind, the tickford AU 200-220 ones are far to mild stock you would be dissapionted,
ive got a full AU 200kw in my ED and its def too mild.

How do you determine the correct pushrod length?

There is an adjustable pushrod you use to measure the length. Heads need to be fitted, rockers bolted down then using adjustable rod, rotate crank to ensure correct location of rod to rocker, will depend on rocker ratio. Is a time consuming job.
