Hi there, I'm about to put a 302 V8 into my CapriII
Just wanted to pick some brains as to my mods as I want to aim for about 350hp. My setup so far is: 5.0i 302 windsor rebuild, std bore ACL pistons, ARP rodbolts Street performance roller camshaft Ported heads Edelbrock EFi intake manifold 70mm Edelbrock throttlebody Aftermarket LINK ecu (a/c, smog pump, p/steer removed) Custom extractors, twin 2.25" exhaust. What are the ported heads???
Post up some pics... Those engines respond well with a couple of T3's off each bank...Lol...

Just the std E7's that have been mild ported.. I'll post pics when they are back. I'm going to follow it up with some edelbrock alloy heads at a later stage.

Here are my cam grind specs:
Cam lift: IN. 0.282" Ex. 0.282" Rocker Ratio 1.6 1.6 Valve lift 0.435" 0.435" Duration @ 0.50 202 208 Centreline @ peaklift 110 114 camtiming@.050" Intake open 9 Close 31 Exhaust open 38 Close 10 Lobe Seperation 112 Can anyone provide a similar comparison? Kinda seems this grind is a bit small compared to what you fellas are using ![]() |

G'day JT,
Here's the specs of my mates Capri. I think you'll be hard pressed to make 350hp with ported E7's you might get 320 if your lucky but you might hit water too; Std bore forged piston 5.0 bottom end(with Ford racing Boss 302 style rods) Edelbrock 1.90 valve heads unported. Match ported Cobra intake. Ford 65mm t-body Ford racing F303 cam Ford racing 1.6 roller rockers Custom made Tri-Y headers 2 1/4" dual exhaust with cats fitted 24lb injectors X3Z Cobra EECIV with TwEECer 70mm Cobra MAF Z-type T5 9" rear. Makes 305rwhp @ 5800rpm Cheers, Pete. |

what do you mean by 'hit the water?'
Yeah I realise the E7's will hold me back.. I'm only getting them ported because my friend can do it for free, when I've got everything setup I will save for alloy heads. ![]() I think my cam might be a bit tame for my goal.. other than that I have the benefit of no cats, no accessories except alt, and no maf. Right now I am held up because I can't decide on pistons. I need some good STD bore pistons.. anyone got any std forgies they want to sell? |

Hit water refers to porting to get enough flow to make 350hp...the walls will be so thin you'll hit the water jackets.
Go to summitracing.com and get a forged piston rebuild kit it's the cheapest way to get these parts. No cats will make no difference and neither will no MAF. My mates Capri only has an Alternator and water pump to drive. Cheers, Pete. |

Always thought cats were quite restrictive?
yeah it's only a mild port, short side radius clean up etc. E7's are pretty nasty, it will be interesting to see a dyno run with em and then a dyno run on the edelbrocks I plan on buying. |

Yeah that's a common misconception. On this Capri it made no difference when the cats were fitted.
I've seen cases where removing stock cats on a 600hp engine made a 1hp difference. They then fitted the More-Flo brand of cats and it actually picked up torque and made the same power as straight pipe. Ported E7's will be fine to start with. Pete. |

YES I find the cats re-heat the gasses... And we all know hot gasses flow heaps faster when hot.....

No it's because of the metal composition(platinum/rhodium generally) and the surface area of the Cat cause a large heat build up necessary to oxidize harmful gases. |

There has been a few Aussie and US articles doing that sort of test, I remember one engine lost 4hp at the rear treads by removing the high flow CAT, plus removing it increase noise (Which gives the misconception of more power). Pretty sure that was a turbo Supra running a 3" exhaust and real 3" cat. You can pick my cat is empty because of all the "noise" from the front with stock exhaust (I6), I didnt empty the cat, it all fell out from being melted just before I purchased the car, just with me flogging it, it caused the bits to dislodge as blow out the back, I had some chunks close to golf ball size. When I convert the that car to straight gas it will be getting another CAT just to shut up the noise ![]()

heat from the cat isn't going to make it perform better, Exhaust gas travel around 350 ft/sec. How much heat will the exhaust gases loose for the 10th of a second they are in the whole exhaust system?
