I currently have an EB Fairmont Ghia with a old 5.0L in it. Near 400k. Nursing it along just nicely. I am looking at buying a short motor in the near future and setting it up with a nice set of Edelbrock Alloy heads and manifold. I have come across a good deal on both 302w short roller motors and 351w roller shorts.

My question is, will I fit the 351 in the EB and has anyone had any joy with the Edelbrock manifolds on a 351w? (ie: fitting them in height wise) I am looking at the Performer RPMII manifold and the Performer RPM heads.

Cheers

Heads fit though 1/2 head bolts..May have to drill out bolt holes in head..
Inlets are differant..The lower manifold is wider...
Need a custom sump..The rear mains are bigger & 5.0 sumps don't fit..A Hi-energy fits just right, should have one anyway??
The engine sits 3" higher so you'll need a bonnet scoop or cowling...A B.A lookalike...Though I'd use 70-76mm maf with 24 Lb callibraion it will run with existing efi gear...It will be tight around exhaust but it can be done...
Graeme...hth...

IIRC most of the edelbrock heads are drilled for 1/2" head bolts, and you use sleeves to space them down for 302 use

theres a 351 ed in street fords issue 2 and it only mentions that it needs a extra inch of deck height so you need a scoop, but appart from that it was a easy swap with the car turning over 1st time with the standard xr8 computer.

cheers

BTW deck height difference is 9.5"- 8.2" = 1.3" which results in a 3" overall higher engine. I'm using an Edelbrock Peformer 5.8 intake #3884 lower and Performer upper in my XE ute. The RPMII intake requires port matching to fit the 351 lower ports but get this...They don't sell it separately so you have to buy the whole 5.0L RPMII kit and sell off the lower!?!
Wasnt a problem for me as I am only building a mild torque monster of an engine for my XE. The #3884 lower and Performer upper combo is 10.83" high. I had to trim some metal out of the bonnet bracing on my XF bonnet otherwise it fits but the throttle body is very close. If I have contact issues when actually running I will fit a shaker. For an E series I would say contact is more likely but I believe the Edelbrock intake is actually slightly lower than the GT40. I'd grab another bonnet from the wreckers to save cutting your original.
Other things you'll need are;
351w TFI distributor
XR-Y pacemaker headers and weld in some HEGO bosses
Longer fuel rail crossover tubes (cut the originals off)
Bigger fuel pump unless it's going to be stock.
351w front Sump and pan mounted dipstick tube
Minimum 65mm t-body
With Edelbrock heads and intake you'd need at least 24lb injectors.
Reduced base circle roller cam(for pre '94 blocks) and pushrods to suit.
These roller shorts you refer to should have an F4TE engineering number(check before you buy). Non roller EFI blocks are E9TE.
Beef up your BTR 4spd...it won't like the torque of the 351.
A TwEECer to dial it in properly.

Cheers,
Pete.

Oi whatever your name is....yes I remember you. I just talked to Dean today actually.
Let me know what your EEC catch code is and I'll let you know how much TwEECer support there is. Should be something like 3DEA,3DFA or the like.
Having said that a TwEECer won't give you grunt unless you do some something to the engine to warrant recalibrating it.
While we're on the subject..351 it...that'll give you some grunt!

Cheers,
Pete.

Trust me Wade they won't have any injected windsors at superoo.
Ring brunswick diesels and see if they have any. Don't pay more than about $1000 for a complete EFI 351.
Otherwise you're better off buying a 351w short and then buy the parts you need to finish it.
No... Robs XA(and then XB) did mid 14's. You get that when you don't even rebuild the engine or clean up the welds where I cut and shut the upper intake!?!?!...Dodgy bastard! Mid to low 14's with a dead stock engine and 3:1 gears is pretty damn good though.
Just changing the intake will get you into the high 13's.
