Are these alternators exactly the same or is the Lane one bigger then a Mont?

Can these alternators be reconditioned?, I went to my local Auto Electrician & he stated he does not rebuild these as he had trouble with rebuilding them,

when i had my eb v8 i couldnt find anyone that reco them and ford was $700. ouch
i got a new aftermarket one for $300 with from m&j auto electricial at guildford..it was identical to the factory one but didnt have the motorcraft lable.

it was still a bit pricey but at short notice its all i could find...
