Hi, i reckon the dual speed engine cooling fans are not running at the high speed when they are supposed to. They do come on at high speed when the air-cond is on with fan speed set at no. 5 but not when the engine is in the upper temperatures! I've put in another set of fans, radiator and thermostat and used high concentrate coolant. I think it may have something to do with the engine temperature in the block? I've changed the relays checked the fuses etc. With my other 5L V8s i've owned previously, i recall the engine fans came on when engine temperatures increased to a certain setting.
Thanks for your thoughts. |

Yes the fans should come on when the temperature is around 96-98 C and cut out at 92 I think, So it may be that replacing the temp sender may fix your problem.Kevman

try taking the coolant temp sensor out n clean it up

so the fans are on though when the engine is hot, but just not high?
How hot is it getting, past half way on the temp gauge?

Yeh, they only can on at the low speed even when the temp. gauge is at 3/4s. The fans only run at high speed when the climate control is at no. 5 fan speed. I swapped the temp. sender last nite but the old one seems ok when i checked with a multimeter on resistance setting. I also put in the missing stone shield under the front bumper, see if that diverts the heat? Ta

so i assume the temp drops with the a/c on full? so the fans are on max.

Is the thermostat std heat range ??

Yeh, standard heat range NEW thermostat. Its the thermo fans they dont go on to High speed to pull in the air, thats why the A/C isnt as cold as it should be because the condensor in front of the radiator has too much heat in it. Im swapping around the 4 fan relays to see what happens now. The thermo fans do come on at high speed when the climate control is set at anything above '5' fan speed, just not when the engine needs it at a high temparature so up goes the dash gauge!
Even if i put in a large radiator the engine would still get hot as the fans need to come on at high speed to draw the air thru the radiator fins to cool the coolant from the engine. |

Check your relays!!

I've changed the relays with many others but no difference. The fans dont stay on at high speed for long. today was 41C and the temp gauge went to about 3/4s. I popped the bonnet when i got home and the thermo fans were only running at 1/2 (slow) speed. I reckon i might run a trigger cable from the a/c compressor direct to the thermo so when i turn A/C on the thermos come on at max speed like they should!
