One word... DEVASTATED
My el xr8 got hammered by a frigan nissan exa turbo manual.. Started off at a set of lights in South Strathfield on the Hume Highway under the Roberts Road bridge (for all you Sydney guys..) Anyways, lights went green, heaps of wheel spinnage from my xr8 (didnt have a very good take off at all), i munch him in first gear. come second gear he's caught me and the chase is one. Im trying the catch up in second gear, foot to the floor, shift into third gear but just couldnt catch him! By the end of third gear, he was about 6 car lengths infront of me and i gave up.. Maaannn.. I felt absolutly devastaded, violated, whatever you wana call it! All the more reason for me to hurry up and do something to the car! 
I was in the process of saving for a 347 rebuild (almost got enough $$$ ..Woohoo!), but ive come to the conclusion that id be better off with a supercharger kit from CAPA and then rebuilding the engine around that. Any suggestions? Oh by the way, this all happened while my girlfriend was in the car, so i felt even more embarassed!!

Thats why I started to mod mine>
I know how ya feel though and I would go with the stroker........to start with. 
Supercharge it after that.

man I have raced me mate he has a N12 Et turbo pulsar I admit he will get me off the line but after 160km/h I waive good bye to him as those 4bangers can't get any higher due to the way the gear boxes are set up

Yikes, how fast do you guys race to LOL!
I rekon if you dont wanna spend too much more on the engine than what youve saved up now, s/c it! If your willing to make it an ongoing project and expect wild results, storke then s/c it! 
Either way it cant hurt hey!

If i stroked it first though, wouldnt i have to install a cam with a new profile designed for the supercharger later on anyway? Or doesnt it really matter what cam i use with the supercharger? |

Yeh if i kept going i would have caught him easy in fourth.. BUUUTTT.. It was on the hume highway and i didnt really wanna race until the 180kmh mark! lol! ..And besides, i want more of a chance earlier in the race!

Ask around about which cam would be best suited for the supercharger and would it work well in the stroker motor before you get the supercharger installed.

Good idea mate, now the problem is though.. If i asked a performance shop, theyre just gona say anything to try and sell me a $500 roller cam, lol! ..Sooo, any guys here know of any good cams that would work well with a stroker as well as a s/c later down the track???

ive got a video of me and a mate draggingm he had an exa turbo and i whiped his a** from the line and kept going futhur ahead (will see if i can find vid if knowone believes me) so i would say that exa was moded a fair bit. my car was stock to (ef)

the best place to give it to ya V8 is just as you hit the WELCOME TO THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS SIGN when its winter thats when I gave me mate a go.
The cars love the cold air and that area is the least patroled by the POLICE as not many spots for them to hide but try not to do this if their is other traffic on the road as one slip of the steering wheel you CANT SLOW DOWN EASY OR QUICK IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG

F***en oath it was modded! U shoulda seen it go! The thing flew! I reckon is was boosted off its nut!

You're not going to get that much with just a blower on stock heads and manifold. You really need aftermarket items then blow it after that.. Anyway, you already know what I reckon... Stroker will be a lot of work in the end and a lot more money than you think as most of the $$ goes into strengthening the block otherwise it won't last too long. That, and a stroker alone won't give you much more power, but lots of low down torque.

Practice your Launches... even try to watch the lights from the other direction and try to pre-empt your lights going GREEN 
I only have a stock 165Kw V8 motor atm with a 2500rpm stall convertor. I sit there with one foot HARD on the brake and the other on the GAS to the point where she tries to cut loose ... when the lights go Green the LSD cuts in and I'm already gone !!! the guys in there 5.7L SS Commodores have to play catch up

Yeah good points man, i wouldnt have just blown my money without a s**t of research anyway! But better finding out now then later!
But yeah, as you suggested, ill now start with the engine build first
So far, here's whats planned: * Trickflow TW heads - ported + polished * Trickflow Trackheat or Edelbrock Performer manifolds (which one?!) * 75 or 80mm MAF with suited 24lb/h injectors * Crane 2030 cam * and if needed after all that, bigger throttle body... maybe Any other suggestions? |
