For $2k, you would throw it at exhaust, headers and air intake. Probably the best bfyb mods

For 2k you sould be able to get AU Explorer intake manifolds with 65mm TB, 70mm MAF, AU GT40p heads and an exhaust if you are lucky.
I know of a set of explorer manifolds and TB coming up for sale soon if interested The last set i sent to AUS cost about $130 for post IIRC.

you sure you have a 65mm or is it the stock t/b? you dont need a tune with a throttle body upgrade but there will be no real difference in upgrading untill you piss of the HO manifold and E7 heads. 65mm is plenty, i would leave it. When you change MAF or injectors, then you will need a tune.
How much power you after more like it? cause really 2k on a ho windsor wont get you very far Your basic H/C/I combo + supporting parts, full exhaust and tune is well over 2k |

i just measured the t/b and it is 65mm how big are the stock ones .you ask how much power im after well im probably dreamin but 250 kw at the flywheel would be nice . is the ho manifold that bad it sounds like if i leave it on im wasting my time with everything else. one more thing for the el lovers i stepped out of a 2004 290kw ba gt-p and i have to say my 14 year old el xr8 is so much better to drive .

Your EL should already have the better Explorer intake manifold. Is it a squarish shape? I think the late EL's might have had GT40P heads also.
I'd be interested to know why your EL is nicer than the GT-P! Mike

pics of intake manifold, throttle body with measuring tape next to it, etc so we can judge what you already had

Sold the 290kw BA XR8 and bought a Sprint. The BA was quite bland really...anyway i would be interested in your comparison of the GTP and EL.

The EL throttle's were close to 63mm and the first car Aussie built car to get 40p's was the FBT
For 2k you'll get a lot out of the old HO if you can do the work yourself, a die grinder and some reasearch will get you a long way I got 170rwkw out of E7's and an explorer ported, good fun

Guys im thinking of buying an El xr8 again as a cruiser, i was prob looking at throwin about 5 or 6k under the bonnet. Can u actually get some decent hp out of these motors. I remember from the last time i owned one i got told to basically buy new manifold and heads and go from there. Can the ECU be added onto with a flash tune or not. I wud like to make the motor lumpy and strong but im starting to worry it might be to much hassel and money with the older EL xr8.
Wud i be better buying an au xr8 forking up a bit more up front and spending less on the motor.... Any advice or help wud be appreciated cheers Simo |
