Hi,I like to think I'm pretty cluey on exhaust systems ,having done some custom systems on older cars(xd,xe)however I need your advice on this one.
I bought a series 1 el xr8 and the exhaust is a bit old(but still sounds meaty)
anyways I was thinking of this being the 1st thing I changed(due to having a mortgage and no extra cash for pacie ph4000's)
This is my problem.Initially I was gonna go for a 2.5 dual system until a mate that works at an exhaust place recommend I go for a redback 3 inch system with a megaflow muffler.
I question this as my el xr8 already has a dual pipe system(as you know)but he insists it will still be a good mod andas he knows I dont have alot o cash.
He can do the 3 inch system for 450 bucks(think its 600 without mates rates)and assures me of a good note(he reckons lukeys are a bit droney)
plus a more ree flowing system(lol im not looking to make 50bhp here!)
what do you guys think?Remember I aready have factory dual pipes.would the three inch be a better system than the factpry dual?thankyou.

I originally had a single 3" on the mont and hated it, dronned like a b**ch between 40 and 60 k's and even sounded like it echoed at 100. Needless to say that got ripped out and went for 2.25 twin with pacies, nice and quiet at idle and sounds fantastic under load. IMO forget about the single 3" and prob go for the twin 2.25 all the way. 2.5 twin only good if u doing some decent mods. hope this helps

Got picks of system in gallery and if the exhaust joint says it can't be done find someone else.

For $450 for that 3" single you cant really go wrong.
If you've got more $$$ to throw at it then definatly go for a twin system. Twin 2 1/4" works really well on the 5.0, thats what im running on mine with Hooker mufflers, all mandrel bent with an x-pipe.
AFAIK the EL XR8 never got twin 2 1/4" from factory, maybe twin 2" and restrictive mufflers.

I've never heard of factory twins either, are they twin all the way to the back or does it change into a single over the diff? I would definately go for pacies, now that i have them i will never go back.

Thanks for the comments =)
Will be starting a build thread once the not so subtle mods start. (427 going in by the end of the year, full custom leather retrim with finished boot install)

If the motor is stock i would just get a single 2.5 lukey because redback mufflers sound s**t and a 3 inch would be way too big for a stock 5.0.
I have never heard a lukey system i didnt like.

I have a twin 2.25 into a single 3 inch after the mufflers, with opened up cats! sounds awesom, no drone, but fairly pricey!!

My opinion, if you are keeping it stock, just go for a single 2.5", with one muffler.
Otherwise grab that 3" if you are doing some mild mods, thats a good deal.
Or like XH5LWEPN said, twin 2.25" if you've got the cash, they sound very nice when done right.

heres a thread with some soundclips if you want to lsiten to some different ones.

I got a single 3" on mine. ELGT headers, stock cats, single 3" to twin tips.

Goes well, sounds tough and doesn't drone. Not as loud as some systems I've heard but she makes some great noise when on full song.

My car is modified now but I had the same system when it was a stock 185kw EL XR8.

I'd be going a twin 2.25" if you had the extra cash however but 3" single is nothing wrong.

Iv got a single 3 inch on my ef xr8, but never been happy with it. It is also a Redback system. Very deep note, but not very loud, and very droany. Was talked out of twin pipes cos exhaust bloke told me they dont fit under there.

system has been for a week now, first couple of day's with no resi....& to loud to drive to far without attention!
after resi was put in sound is sweet, nothing but good feed back from people .
had the diff done the week before (from a 3.23 single to a 3.45 lsd) so is hard to judge how much of a gain i've got from the system?
but will suit the mod's to come in the new year

found hooker while looking at the "vpw" website, i got a 2 1/2 single on a stock system with pacie's , sound's great & price was good to!
so was a no brainer to get another when doing the upgrade to a single 3"....had to put the resi on but sounds heaps better than the 2 1/2 !!!
barry white would be turned on by the "deep note" it's got now
