Are you decided to go the 2 1/2' set up hey.
Where are you getting it done at, and how much is it costing you? and is it mandrel bent?

Getting it done at Carline at Belmont. Nice bloke who took the time to discuss my options and listen to my dribble, which goes a long way in my eyes. Dropped it off this morning and once we looked at the setup I wanted, we decided to go a twin 2 1/4" Mandrel bent system with hotdogs in lieu of mufflers
 Sound familiar benny  We dropped the pipe size mainly to give that little bit of extra room at the rear where it comes out to fit between the factory cutout in the rear bumper. All up he quoted me $600. sounds pretty fair. I also told him to have the car for as long as he needed and to take his time. At least then he won't rush the job and I should get a good result

That should be good mick, $600 is not a bad deal! dont forget to get some chrome exhaust tips, you dont want them looking all s**t like mine do

Cant wait to listen to the new sound. Thats good that you found a shop who is willing to do it. There are plenty of places around that say that it is too hard and prefer to use off the shelf exhausts instead.
I'm umming and ahhhing over what size pipes I should go for my wagon. Perhaps we should get both your Fairlanes together so I can listen to both? |

Woohoo! All done! and to say I am happy with the result would be an understatement
When he first kicked it over, I nearly creamed my panties Very deep and crisp note and with the custom setup, it has a very unique sound. I end up getting 6 hotdogs fitted all up. I called in to check on the progress at lunch time and snapped a couple of pics.

If you are after a custom setup, definately give Eric a call. Extremely nice bloke and willing to listen to what you are after and was very helpful in offering suggestions. With the extra 2 hotdog resonators installed in the rear the total bill came to $780. Pretty good considering the bloke spent the best part of 2 days on the installation. He must do alright, he drives a dodge viper

i just made myself one tonight after work
lucky for me the workshop i work in was an old custom exhaust place so we have heaps of leftover pipe and chrome tips etc with mig and pipe bender ive gone for twin sports cat from the extractors to a y piece pipe then i stuck a straight through sports muffler near the rear and then ran a single pipe from that to a oval crome tip out the rear its not loud but when its under load you can hear a runmble until the pulley noise etc takes over from the engine bay but at idle you can hear a nice burble which is what i was after i wasnt looking for a loud exhaust but one that sounded bassy and like a v8 btw its all done in 2 1/2" pipe |

sounds like what i did mate, but i did it in my back yard.
I have A Dual Exhaust on my EA V8, sounds mad made it myself. Twin 2 1/2" exhaust pipes, nothing but pipe from the extractors to the two oval mufflers on the back. just redone it. People in adelaide know what it sounds like 
Well they heard it when it stopped at the diff. with the old flowmasters. Too much of a police target, so removed the fuel tank and have pipes out either side now. Deifinitely A++ for the non balance pipe crew. sounds better oldschool. |

i was looking at doing a twin pipe as all i would have done is ran the left cat back to the right side and vise versa welding into an x where they cross not needing the balance
one problem would have been clearance or i could have ran a twin exit muffler for the twin pipe but au xr8's only have one pipe cutout in the rear bumper bar when i get bored again i might buffer out the extractor flanges to the cats with some 3" pipe to one muffler and few harsh bends in the pipe to keep the burble but loose the police target noise while keeping back pressure ill use the hotdog as at the moment when im hard on the pedal and back off quick the unburnt fuel is popping in the pipe this is due to the loss of back pressure which helps keep the fuel in the cylinder saves fuel and keeps a bit of performance in normaly aspirated aplications but as always its either all noise and v8 porn or fuel economy but i made the rear pipe as a clamp fitting and modified the old rear muffler to use the same hanger and clamp so if i decide for long runs i can chuck it back on in secconds |

good man for going the twin 2 1/4's seems eric knows his stuff. easily enough flow for even a warm 5 litre. will keep the torque and sound the biz.
