Why do so many Ford hotrods (32/33/34s) have Chevy 350s in them? It annoys the s**t out of me whenever I'm looking through magazines, seeing a nice Ford 'rod and it's got a f**k Chevy in it!

Because they fit in between the rails easier than a Windsor or Cleveland.

Anyone that thinks a boat anchor fits better is an idiot! A 289/302 is smaller than a boat anchor anyway!?!
It's just because they are dumb a*** sheep who do whatever the next rodder does! |

But if you're building a Ford, you'd put a Ford engine in it, surely!
f**k retards, if you ask me. I doubt the cost of parts would be a big factor, would it? Are they even that much cheaper?

I think its to do with cost.
They're just generally cheaper.

back in the 50 - 60's chevs where easier to come by and cheaper as most fords of that time where still on the rd , chevy parts are by far the cheaper and and heaps more aftermarket parts available to buy off the shelf than the earlly flat head and y-blocks ,
thats why chevs where used and it has just been a growing trend . thats why you find most rods have the 350-350-9 inch combos with HR holden crossmembers or L300 front ends in them or even built on a earlly model nissan kingcab chassis thats coming from the 5-6 years i spent building rods part-time

i agree with xr9ute...baaah baaah
these days i think theres n excuse for it.just narrw minded people following a trend and being one of the cattle and just following the heard .some people just dont have the artistic ability to think outside the box like ford fans. i love the look of hotrods .but if i ever build one it would be a turbo 6 (ford) in it.not a lot of people would agree with this but thats how i would like mine |

He is still in the meantality that Chev is so much cheaper even thou the gap has closed a lot. If others would get out of that mentality it would only be down to pure choice not price.

With a rod you should go with your heart not what is most efficient. Plus a rod shouldn't need a stereo like any less than an 8 does.

I have seen quite a few rods using Holden V8's ( 253/308)....starter motor is on passenger side, makes more room for steering, good selection of sump profiles.....and they use narrowed HK/HT/HG front ends.

we're doing a long term rebuild on a 'ford' rod. not that ANY part of it ever came from a ford factory.
It will have 350SBC in it. Why, because thats what was in it, the starter is on the passenger side and the trans is there to go with it. The only thing that s**t me about it is the dizzy placement and oil filter placement, the old engine had a blower on it and it made it very hard to get at the dizzy. the new engine will have a tunnel ram, so will make it easier. As far as i care, it's a hotrod, for never built any of it, so i see no reason why it should have a ford engine. |

I guess it's safer place to store a G.M engine??
The original Ford is still running..

Dizzy at front! Starter on passenger side! See....still no f**k excuse! |
