Has anyone had the ISC do the following?

1) When i unplug it the idle doesn't change.

2) When i put it in drive or reverse the idle jumps up (Same as putting on the AC).

It's working fine when turning the steering or putting on the AC.

So is it a dud ISC, or wrong signal from ECU or sensor?

I'm pretty sure once your engine is warm, disconnecting the isc isnt meant to change anything.
I've got mine unplugged because it kept a hold of the revs to long in between shifts.

Mine is playing up regardless, jumps around which ever gear its in. It does cut out a lot while turning the wheel though. I would think ECU sensor if steering an air con aren't hampering it

Heres a detailed write up about how these ISC's work. It does alot more than you think, but having said that, mine runs fine with it blocked off although cold starts are s**t

Your looking at the "stepper motor" type

Have you replaced the ISC with the one you got from me yet?

Did you replace it with a new one? Or a second hand one you knew was workin 100%?
My ex bro in law has an AU ute so i'm thinking of getting him to come up so i can part swap with something i know is working 100%.
It's not a part i'd buy second hand without seeing it working, otherwise i'll buy new.

With a new isc, you might need to reset the ecu to make it relearn idle settings properly?

Timmeh - yeh I replaced it today. The revs still flutter a bit and engine still shuts down when steering wheel turns. The revs dont seem to move as much though..

Damn I'm sure that was the fix.
Have you had a look at the idle speed switch on the power steering rack? If there is one for a V8. the I6s do.

I don't think Ford isc's are stepper ? I think they are frequency operated ??
You MAY have other issues ? Leaking inlet or faulty O2 , map sensors...

Yeah that's what i would have though!

Anyway, i haven't had much help in my cause, we know how and why they operate, i was hoping to find someone who had the same prob as me.

The ISC is a solenoid controlled by frequency - the duty cycle is varied to work it.
How it works is pretty irrelevant, the fact that it does work in some situations has me thinking it's probably fine - clean it and/or swap it with a known good one is a good idea, as this is easy and quick to do, and puts beyond doubt if it's okay or not.
Is the idle speed correct when it's disconnected ??
Maybe the plug to the inhibitor switch has crap in it, and the ECU is not getting correct resistances when D or R is selected. Clean the connectors.

What codes are the ECU putting out ??
If none of the above brings up anything, maybe check the D and R resistance ranges are in spec at the ECU plug.

As always, check the easier things first.
