In relation to Manifolds, i can not recommend the Edelbrock RPMII enough. This manifold was worth .5 sec and 3 mph on the 1/4 for my Car. The rear wheel KW was increased by 10-15rwkw across the rev range, and torque also increased dramatically

There's:
GT40
GT40P
GT40Y
GT40X

give me a set of GT40X any day

The 40's and 40P's are both still cast heads yes? The Y and X's are alloy?

Spot on....GT40Z's are alloy too, which is the best flowing of these heads

Original GT40 flow 192/128cfm, GT40P's 196/139cfm, GT40Y's 213/134cfm, GT40X's 226/161 and the Ford Motorsport Z's (Not actually called GT40Z's because they are a totally new design) flow 277/218cfm.

Also worth noting that the stock heads only flow 156/116cfm while the stock HO intake flows 144cfm and the Explorer intake flows 188cfm.

EDXR8, any idea how readily available the Ford Motorsport Z's? Any idea of cost?

Do the alloy heads on V8s have the same problems as the I6 ones do for the EF/EL?

Don't know if any company has them in Aust, but I was quoted around $2700 landed ex USA. But for that price you can alos look at some trickflow or AFR heads.

I am still using a HO inlet (ported), mild crow cam, ported E7's, but 75mm TB & mafs with 30lb inj' and I have made 255hp at the tyres & pulled a 14.6 1/4 . so I wouldn't say the HO manifolds are that bad after a bit of TLC. Don't get me wrong ,maybe i could get 280hp with a better intake.
I hear the trickflow street is the best buy at $1000 ,and capable of flowing up to 450hp?

If that dyno reading is correct then they must have a hell of a lot of porting. Even aftermarket alloy heads and intakes have problems getting those power figures.

yeah about 50 hours on the heads with welding & raising the inlet ports by 1/4'' ,re shaping the combustion chambers to suit the dished venolia's, recessing the oversized valves by .060'' and all of the normal cc'ing blueprinting. as for the manifold a very similar aproach was taken. I'm not gonna tell the secret to the exhaust ports as this was where most of the testing went into!
when I get home from work late this week I'll find the dyno report & put it on for those who are a little sceptical
cheers ; kenny

Ok with that type of port work it is possible although that is about the absolute max for the E7's, would love to know the flow figures you managed to get though. The top head porters in the US do get similar results but as you know it takes a lot of work. The 1/4 mile time seems a bit low for that sort of power, did the port work effect low down power much?

s**t yeah, power is pretty dead till 2800-3000rpm
the heads weren't benched, as this guy does a lot of them and gave me a mates rates deal for after hours work, he didnt feel it was necesary as they all come up the same , but I do know the inlet ports are 210cc and exhaust are 155cc

I was under the impression that you couldn't fit explorer upper and lower to E7 heads....could be wrong though.

I reckon it would be more beneficial to do the whole lot at the one time while your in there for the sake of $1500 odd bucks, to the small gain your gonna see with just the upper explorer.

MAF and throttle body need to be upgraded too....also throw in 1.72 roller rockers and a bigger cam, that'd see you pumping out some fairly good power

ELII and XHxR8 have E7 heads, and a maniflod with ACT and EGR, although, XH has the EGR disabled.
