Hey all,
My V8 fairlane is running a bit ruff. Espescially on idle. It splutters up until about 2000rpm then its nice and smooth. This leads me to believe it may be a coil pack(s). If not this then i spose it could be plugs or leads. IS there anything else it may be??? I just got a quote for all this stuff and the coil packs alone are $200 each. Cheers in advance

You can get MSD coilpacks for bout 160 each, or 80 each from summitracing.com. They are plug and play and look sweet in the bay

mates au ute was missing and carrying on and would get better as the rev's climb.It turned out to be an O2 sensor..

He put in new plugs, MSD leads and the fancy coil packs and the motor will still shake the car whilst in neutral at about 1200-1500RPM. I thought that it could be the harmonic balancer because their symptons are similar when they are bung. I already pointed at the O2 sensors when the problem first raised its head, especially since he had pacmakers fitted and the orange silicon goo that they seal them up with is notorious for fouling and destroying O2 sensors. |

So it could be the O2 sensor/s???
So its really narrowed down to the following: Plugs Leads Coils O2 sensors Harmonic balancer Its at the mechanics as we speak, so heres hoping its nothing major. They should be getting back to me soon. Cheers for all your help guys

Ok here it goes,
I booked it into the mechanics to try and get the problem sorted. They replaced ALL the plugs without notifying me ($150). They checked leads, coil pack and all was fine. Then they said it WAS the O2 sensors, they wanted over $100 each so i said no i will replace them. I managed to get 2 off ebay for a grand total of $120. So i have replaced them, and shock horror, it still runs like a dog. So the other day i reset the ecu hoping this would fix the problem, but to no avail. So there is only a few things i believe it could be. 1 An Injector (have run 1 tanks worth of injector cleaner and i havent noticed any improvement) 2 Fuel filter (could possible be not providing enough pressure to get to one of the final injectors on the rail???) 3 ECU ( i really hope its not this, as they ECUs seem somewhat hard to find. BUt then again, this may fix my auto changes as they are a bit iffy too) Does anyone else have any input to what this may be??? Any help will be greatly appreciated Cheers in advance Matt

How many kms has the car done? My car had a similar problem with the fuel pump which will cost around $100. It should be replaced every 100,000kms or so, standard maintenance item.

I thinking it is the fuel pump also. Try the filter first and if it improves slightly means fuel pump. I may be wrong.

Hey mate,
It could be a vacuum hose on the motor somewhere thats come loose ive had this happen a few times in my BA, or it could be a single lead that has failed causing one cylinder to not fire properly i had this problem in my AU once before the number one lead was loose with the fitting that clips on the plug, replaced the lead and she ran sweet.  Hope this helps.

The car has done 131k klms. So i spose i will be replacing both the fuel filter and pump???
I will go over the entire engine and unplug/plug all leads and hoses tomorrow. But i also heard from another source that it could be a vacuum leak on the manifold??? I think by the time i find it the whole car will be replaced!!!!!

Just had the Injectors serviced by ford and the issue is still there....not as bad but still there none the less.
Does any one know what this may be????

Does any one know what this may be???? did you change the fuel filter? my v8s have over 300ks,have to add---go to a gearbox specialist and have the error codes read and reset,then drive it for a day and re check the codes,may give you a better start,i have mine done each gearbox service or when it goes pear shaped.

Check the fuel filter as when they get clogged they can cause this sort of problem.
Also check fuel pump.

You might want to have a look at the inductive pickup.
It sounds like your problem could be that as the faster the engine spins the stronger the signal from the pickup gets. Make sure that it's all clean down there and no muck is cloging up the teeth and that the pickup is spaced between .8 and 1mm away from the teeth. If you don't see any glaring irregularities down there then with all that you've already replaced I don't think a new pickup will cost all that much to try.
