hi guys, i want to replace the PCV in my 5ltr. i know its at the back of the motor, is it just a matter of pulling the old one straight out and pushing a new one in or is there a trick to it?

The only trick that I know of is to grow a second elbow to actually fit my arm behind there.

I could fit my arm in there but ended up ripping the hose apart.. It was very stiff. I don't use PCV setup anymore anyway. If you want to replace it, taking off upper intake will make it easier.

ok i got the valve out, but in the manifold where the grommet sits there is a gauze pad, this seems completely blocked? should this vent through? if so this explains my problem and why its leaking oil. what can i clear it with?

I replaced my gauze filter last night, the old one was about 99% blocked so a brand new one went in. Pulled it out with pointy noised plyers pretty easily, but yes, my upper manifold is off at the moment!

how did you grab the gauze? is there a tab i didnt see?
does it pull straight out or is there a clip? why is it even there, can i leave it out? |

On top of it there are 3 little metal tags. I just grabbed one of them with pointy nosed plyers and yoinked it out. No clips, just sitting in the hole.

ah thats great thank you. should i clean it and put it back or just leave it out? does it actually serve a purpose?

It's an oil separater, best to keep it. I clean them with di-chloro-methane aka methylene chloride. You need about 100mls. Soak in 50mls for 30 minutes, discard liquid, blow out with compressed air, soak overnight in fresh liquid, blow out with air, re-install. Just don't get any of this on your paint - it's the active ingredient in paint stripper.
