Mate, you can still use your EA T5 behind your V8. Yes the imput shaft is shorter on the 6 but they can be lengthened. Mine has been going well now for nearly 3 years. Speak to Dellow in Sydney when you're closer to the conversion. PM me for details.

Early EBs didn't have smartlock. EB1s I believe.

I would probably NOT use the EA T5 behind the 5l, especially if you plan on modifiying it even mildly.
ED 6 cylinder T5 is one thing, but the EA box is well known to be a fair bit weaker.

They are known to be weaker. Perhaps mine is stronger. It has a EA case and an EL extension housing with a modified imput shaft but yes, it is quite adequate for a 5L such as mine especially if you dont drive like a d***head.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but in the next few months ill be dropping a 302 into my s1 eb aswell, just curious, is the k frame different from 6 to 8? if so ill be trying to purchase a wrecked eb 5.0l from the auctions
