No worries, The closest aftermarket intake to this is the TFS-R with the box upper.

Can anyone tell me the material spec of the alloy used, as I need to do some corrosion repair to my lower intake manifold.

NICE write up. Very imformative is an understatement!

Do all of these have 70 mm TB? or are the better flowing later models 75 mm TB?

Cheers, Tim.

The explorer intake is big enough for a 65mm TB.
The cobra & tubular intakes are big enough for a 70mm TB.

Here's a comparison between 5.0 & 5.8 GT40 lowers...

Image

and pics of the 5.8 lower with the Explorer upper on it. Overall height of this combo is 280mm with 270mm at the rear most corner of the upper.

Sensational write up...just about to embark on putting an AU II explorer onto the DL so this is all golden stuff.

They are some pretty sweet looking bits....would be interesting to see inside one

Out of interest does anyone have a pic of an AU with the IAS taped into it?

Just to add to the list, 5.0L truck lower, I still have a couple of them so I should take better pictures of them.

Too right Macca, And they are one of the best performing 5.0 intakes ever!
Here you can see that the Holley Systemax2 uses the truck lower design with their own low profile upper...

And here's the Saleen Vortech version, note the extra injector bosses?..

Amazing info . may have just helped me with one aspect , but baffled in another. i bought a explorer lower and upper, 1st notacable problem was the egr was not ported in either. then the tb 65mm was too small to fit passing onto the egr then upper manifold. bought a 70mm tb an egr to suit, drill an tapped for the sensor no worrys, replaced the maf to a 70mm , went like a duck shot up the a** for a few weeks , then progressivly started to die.

would the egr not working be comunicating to the computer and doing this, ?

The cfm of the Cobra is wrong, it flows essentially the same as the Explorer, cause thats essentially a production Cobra, and flows less than the GT40.

pete, going by that its pointless running around chasing a cobra or gt-40 manifold as the explorer is on par and in some spots better than both?
