Hey guys,Im looking at getting an XR8 2005 model.Im wanting to supercharge and Rebuild motor with high performance parts,I am now not to keen on this idea because i remembered they are injected and need ecu mods"Realy dont wanna play with ecu".I want the car as an every day car with plenty of go and not to low revving.I still want the car to handle well and be a high revving car for burnouts.Does anyone have any ideas of what sort of block i should put into it? I cant seem to find many aftermarket parts for the 290 block to get the power for it up and get it on a carby. Any suggestions for something not to expensive,A supercharger would be great if i didn't need to modify bonnet or move anything in engine bay.

What do i want?-Whole new block or same block rebuilt?
Supercharged or not?
Power i will get out of it?
Needs to be street legal

Under $9000 please?

Forget about a carby if you want it road legal. Not a chance you'd come close to meeting emissions requirements. I doubt you'd even find any sort of manifolds for a carby for those motors anyway.

Whats your issue with touching the ECU? Good power gains can be had from just a re-flash nowadays. If you want to supercharge it you will need to get it tuned to get the most out of it.

There are plenty of internal bits available for those motors (rods, pistons etc). Look at some of the site sponsors pages. Plenty of supercharger kits and there are also single and twin turbo kits available too.

If you want to charge it/build the motor you wont need to touch the ecu anyway. Thats the tuners job.
If its not the motor for you maybe wait till these new 5l's are out go by a VE SS.
Pritty sure Blue Power do a Kenne Bell kit for 10k drive in drive out.

Well i like to do things myself,i dont like sending cars in to get them tuned when i can do it myself,But i dont have any experience with ECU's.And why wouldn't is get passed for emissions? Plenty of other cars have 351 block on the street not a problem

You have to meet the emissions requirement for the age of the vehicle.

Came out with injection, needs injection, if you go backwards to a carb it wont pass because it will have worse exhaust emmisions than that model car had when new with injection I guess?

You will never ever in a million years get a carby to meet emission requirements. If so the XR8 would have one as they are cheap and nasty.
If you thought you could put a carby on a 2005 vehicle and keep it legal your mechanical knowledge isnt good enough to supercharge a motor.
Neither is your budget.

here is something scary that I found by googling 'nsw vehicle emissions laws'

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/air/mvefs.htm

Quote: Information captured during the monitoring will not be used for any kind of law enforcement, and individual vehicle information will be kept confidential.

But It wont be long before they end up using it like our dear friends the speed cameras :\

Well i guess you have a few choices then.

Charge then Boss motor,Go get it tuned,Stay with the tuner while he tunes your car if you dont trust them 100%

By a car that dosnt come out with an ECU. XR-XE and put a 351 in it.

Or buy and XR6T and you will twice the power out of it that you would out of a Boss motor with 9k.

Blue Power specialise in BA,BF,FG mate. Maybe give them a ring,They will no what you need.
But as 67RCE said it looks like i was out a fiar bit on the price.
There also in melb and your in Sydney.
