Hi guys
I've got a Xh ute(xr6) and when I use the remote(fob) the passenger door locks then unlocks, cycling down then back up.
I disconected the passenger actuator and can lock the door with the key but noticed that using the key was very stiff or hard to turn compared to drivers side.
I know it's to do with the passenger side as with the passenger side actuator disconnected I can use the remote and the drivers door locks. Do you think it's the actuator because I am thinking it might be the actual door latch, if it seems to be stiff. Any help would be appreciated and any parts as well for my xh xr6 ute. Cheers

It can be the lock itself being rusted up and you can free them up by removing the lock and spraying with silicon spray and then working it backwards and forwards or take it to a locksmith who can repair it by replacing the stuff inside the lock. You can disconnect the little plastic clips that hold the rods in place and try to turn each part using the rods .or spray everything until it all works.Hope this helps.Kevman.

Hi kevman
I suppose it's trial an error for me.
I've just had a bloke offer me a door for $25 complete just missing door handle, so I might just replace the latch, if that's not the problem then I'll replace the actuator. 1st I'll lube up the lock as you said. Cheers mate keep ya posted

may just be the door lock knob has been put on too low on the passengers side.
your drivers lock might need some graphite powder squirted in the lock to free it up

Hi xrfairmont
The drivers side is fine works well, just the passenger side which is giving me the s**ts
I have the door stripped down(door trim off) at the moment to see how it all works and I still have that problem even with the door lock knob not fitted. I have lubed the door lock and disconected the arm to the door lock and that is working well and freely so it must be the latch or the actuator I think.
I think it's time for a beer, it's hot and this doors doing my head in. Best take a break before I take to the door with my trusty hammer lol.
Cheers mate, keep ya posted and nice car. I had an Xt fairmont 68, I'll post some pics soon

It will be the actual door latch. My drivers side one died and now the passenger side too. Both times, if i disconnected the actuator all is well and I can lock that door with the key, but they cycle otherwise.

Just go down to the wreckers and get one from an el, I think mine cost $9 each.

Hey ben
Thanks mate, that sounds like what my door is doing. I'm going to grab this door I got offered for $25 and replace the latch. I'll let you know how I go.

Well guys it's all done, I replaced the door latch (bugger of a job) and problem solved.
Checked the door latch out and the spring inside the latch was stuffed.
Only problem now is I thought it might have been the actuator so I bought a set from an El.
So if any one wants some actuators let us know $40 (what I payed for the set), although always good to have spares hey.
Thanks heaps fellas for your help with this topic, much appreciated.
Will keep posting, fordmods sweet.

What front were you expecting it to have?

No idea, but apart from the grille, they are dimensionally the same, try it and see....

XHII introduced Oct97 - XR's have EL XR fronts. XHI XR's have EF XR front.

I was expecting it to have an Ef front.. And yes apart from the grille, they are dimensionally the same but concern is airflow and headlights.
I would try it but has to be posted, if it doesn't fit fellas I know where ya can get a cheap car bra 4 an EL
