AU Auto and Manual xr6 diff's?

Just a question that Im stuck on: Is there a difference between auto and manual diffs?
I have a Au xr6 manual and it has developed a loud whine. It is a lsd and has the 3.45:1 ratio.
What am asking is can I put a auto diff, with the same ratio on it? Im not sure on diffs I am still learning about them. Any info on this will be great. Cheers in advance.

if the ratio is the same then the diffs are identical
