Yo Fellas
Me BA is makin a 'Brrrrrr' noise which is consistant with road speed, not engine speed. I've had a few guys tell me that it sounds like a wheel bearing, but as the HUBs on a BA are a once piece unit, I don't want to replace them unless Im totally sure that is the problem part. The noise starts around 30kph, starts to resonate around 60-70kph. If I turn to the right, the noise dies down and almost disappears, to the left gets louder. It tends to disappear under braking also, but not much. At first I was told the noise could be coming from out on alignment wheels, and when I got them lined up my guy said they were fully toed out. Does this sound like it could 'definatly' be the wheel bearings??? If so, I was going to do this myself... is it done like dis: * remove brake caliper * remove caliper bracket * remove disc * undo center hub nut (How do I do this one with minimal tools????) * replace the hub Sorry about the novel, any help is always appreciated! should only have to replace the wheel bearing not the hub that would be expensive

with BA's the wheel bearing and hub are one piece, you will need a bloody good rattle gun slim chance doing it by hand! Jack the car up and spin the wheel you suspect - see if the noise is definantly from there How many kms has your car done?

Its done 78k....
I don't have a rattle gun, what else could I use? Maybe a long breaker bar???

hmm - from memory they were on pretty damn tight!

nah easily done with breaker bar, i've done 3 different cars, au2 and 3's, with just a small bar and extension on the end, will need the correct size socket however 36mm from memory. not 100%on this.
and unless you can get aftermarket hub real cheap go with genuine, my experience is they are of a much better quality. and remove the caliper and bracket as one so much easier.

305nm is the tension to do the hub up to... also with BA's its a bit hard to tell which side the sound is coming from while driving as it resonates accross the K frame, i had one at work the other day that i woulda sworn was the left hand side, turned out to be the drivers one...

Just a follow up...
Ended up paying $137 each for a pair of front Hubs and $30 each for the hub nuts from Ford. (which is suprising since Repco quoted me $204 p/hub) Just took it to a mechanic and got them to do it... both sides were fooked. Very quite now... I almost miss the noise. Cheers!

mine are now shagged.. "BRRR" soo much can "Feel" the humming "BRRR" through the sterring wheel..

Yeah dude, not hard at all... thinking back now and watching the mechanic do it, he just had a breaker bar and did the job in less than 10 minutes.
Sold the BA a few years ago, back to an EL... just did a check of the front bearings this weekend. "shes old, but she'll hold."
