Today I went and checked the tension on my wheel nuts on my newly acquired wheels. I was checking 1 nut when it felt suprisingly loose and would not tighten up, so I pulled the socket out to find a stud and nut in my socket. This happened on 3 studs on 3 seperate wheels !!!
All nuts were done to a recommended 80ft/lb. I believe I was doing the right thing in the setting up of these adaptors, so is It most likely to be cheap chinese s**t or am I in the wrong? did these spacers have a stud thread size of 12x1.5mm instead of the factory 1/2 inch?

lol yea the nuts have 1.5mm thread pitch they ARE NOT FACTORY SIZE STUDS

yea I knew about this, but I did not use the original wheel nuts on the adaptors so none of the threads were stripped

Doesnt matter about the threads, if he put the 1/2" nuts on it would have stripped the thread, not broken the stud. Those studs are very weak.
At least you can still go to Ford and buy new factory 1/2" studs and get them pressed in. Most of the value of an adaptor is in the machining. |

did you shave your inner studs for rim clearance ?
ive never had a drama with mine over 80,000km now. heavy towing ,sliding round ect they also have survived a 140km into trip into sand and on seperate occassions two cracked rims. |

what torque setting did you use for your wheel nuts? rattle gun? lol where did you get your adaptors from?

Is it just me or don't the pics work?
Did your adapters have the center locating ring? If not there's your answer right there

yep working! hmm, thats the first time ive seen that happen to a set of spacers!
look even without spacers the dangers of snapping studs is still there, it happened to a friend of mine just yesterday with no spacers on his car and studs that had just been replaced by a motorsports shop (not mentioning who.) in any case, those broken studs may have just been caused by overtightening, who knows. |

Where did you buy them? Maybe they are cheap versions that dont have high tensile studs?

one possibility could be the centres of the studs and the centres of the lip may be slightly offset,, causing excessive sheer stress on one particular stud
|

Geez thats bloody scary man, imagine what could of happened if they let loose while driving aye, that has put me off getting any non pre-au offset rims and running adaptors, even if they are high quality
There was a guy on here, or maybe AFF, who had one of his front adaptors s**t themselves while driving round a corner and basically had the drivers side front sitting on the brake rotor lol, ill see if can get pics of it.. XR-Lane - bought em from Tempe Tyres, and wouldnt suprise me if they are cheap chinese s**t
eboost - the wheel PCD was 114.3 so they should be right shouldnt they? KWIKXR - yeah I've seen that before lol, but he used the wrong nuts and stripped the threads, plus he used a rattle gun, where as I used a torque wrench on all the nuts.
