Hey...
I know that the steering colum has to come out but what do you do about the airbag in the steering wheel? Is there a way to keep the airbag from going off? And keep it still active when i put it back in? Thanks

hey mate...you don't have to touch the airbags...just don't do any big yanks (they have to be pretty big YANKS).
You have to remove the whole dash to get to the pedal box. There a whole lot of bolts running on the top and about 4 bolts along the bottom, once the bolts are out you have to heave the whole dash as a whole to get to the 3 final bolts that hold the pedal box into place. a lot more then just the steering column. I managed without removing the steering column/wheel. I also dropped a hammer on the steering wheel without it going off so I think you should be safe. phong =P~

So just to be safe is it ok to disconnect the battrey/ loom to airbags without them going off..

Ummm...I would think disconnecting them would be the same as disconnecting the battery in the engine as the same thing? Sorry I am not an Airbag expert so would assume it is the same, unless there is an internal power supply that I don't know about that you are directing the question to. IIRC, I unplugged the passenger side one without it going off so I assume it's safe  ...don't quote me though.

Disconnect the battery, wait 1-2 minutes to be safe.
The Airbag module has a capacitor that'll hold charge for around a minute (needed if an accident cuts source power to the car) After this time its discharged, you can quite safely unplug the airbag and Throw it around. I've never seen one go off by itself, but many times with a few aided volts on purpose. Don't be scared of it, as long as you've dropped the power source, it's fine.
