To determine if a car is level after being lowered and consider it having a 1/2 tank of fuel where would you measure it from?
On level ground to the sills just in front of rear wheels and just behind front wheels. From top of the tyre to the wheel arch. Any other measuring points? After lowering mine I measure from the wheel arches and the front is 30mm from the tyre to the wheel arch and the rear is 5-10mm. The rear side with fuel tank is lower than the other rear side. Measuring from the sills to the ground they are even all round. The front being higher from the tyre to the wheel arch makes it look a bit funny but the car is level according to the sills method of measuring. |

When you fit lower springs, measure before you fit, ( from bottom of rim, through the centre of wheel, so you know your square, up to the bottom edge of the guard.). The springs can be marked, RHF, LHF, RHR, LHR, which is self explanetry. On the OE springs, the one with the White stripe of paint went on the right, ( remember white is right). This stripe was next to the other stripe denoting the springs application.
To check if its level now, all you could do is measure it at the sills on a dead level surface.

The actual legal measurement in SA are taken from the centre of the hub to the guard. Eg. from the centre of your mag up to the top arch of the guard. Dunno if that helps but anyway . . .

thats right make sure your on level ground it hard that way better lookin on ebay to find a set already done

in melb it is taken from the lowest point of your car so even if you have a screw hanging down they take from there sucks

yeah melb is lowest point, doesnt matter what, or where it is.
Usually in falcons its the first muffler, just before the diff. Mine was 70mm from ground....never got pulled over..surprise really lol

http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/lic_IB-116A.pdf "Ground clearance of a vehicle must not be less than 100mm with the vehicle loaded or all seating positions occupied" So that means they will take the lowest point of the car and measure from there, whether that be a suspension point, centre of diff etc!

Cheers guys but I'm not worried about the legality as the car is still a legal height.
Just was concerned about the car being level all round. Its all sorted now anyway so thanks guys. |

why worry if its out a mm or two, if it looks level an your happy with the out come, so be it

It was out by more than 1mm or 2mm. It was 10-15mm and was noticeable.
But not for long its going to get fixed shortly. |

hi i had an xf i lowered i took it 4 a blue slip and the mechanic measured the height from the chassis 2 ground and level ground

don't worry about it sitting a bit lower at the rear. thats a good look imo. i'd rather have it sitting down a bit than sitting up a bit. have attached a pic of my car. sits down a bit at back but thats the setup i like.
also regarding how to measure the hieght. kings springs give their measurements as centre of hub to guard. pedders are bottom of rim to guard. most common seems to be the kings method, including s.a. transport. (regency)

u should measure from the top of the wheel arch and if lowered correctly front and rear wheel arches shoulld be the same distance from the ground.
