hey guys anyone out there had dramas with the ba xr6 5 speed box having a sloppy shifter? ive already replaced the insulator which sits in the gearbox twice.
feels like im driving an excel with the freeplay thats in it. :(

Time to get another shifter. Try Billet Products. They have a lifetime warranty on their shifters.

ive tried bolting up a rip shifter, but i couldnt select any gears. around that insulator was some black stuff? whats is that? is it something special?

I'm not sure if the BA T5 gearboxes have changed since the E-series. If it's an insulator, it could be to stop the heat transfer from the box to the shifter. From reading over the many posts on here, the standard shifter becomes sloppy after a while. Did you have the stops adjusted with the rip shifter? What brand was it?
