I'm going to try adapting a chevy T56 from an LT1 motor onto my 5.0 by making an adapter plate to bolt to a T5 bellhousing.

I'm looking for tips from anyone who has done this before.

If someone has a CAD drawing of ANY T56 adapter plate in dxf format that would be very helpful - all I need is the gearbox bolt & dowel pattern and the input shaft centerline

I am aware of the Dellow & CRS plates but these cost a bomb, and other plates from USA which are realistically priced but the freight will more than double the price.

The vehicle is an AU2 XR8 ute, currently with a T5. The motor is getting an upgrade to 347, so the T56 is an insurance policy against breakage

TIA

Are you going to a hydraulic clutch ??

If so, what did you have in mind ??

No, I'm planning on staying with cable.

My idea is to swap the LT1 input shaft to LS1 for the extra length, machine down a SBF I6 T5 b/h to make room for an adapter plate between b/h & gearbox. The amount of b/h machining will be dictated by correct spigot shaft penetration into crankshaft

I make small casting runs of the SBF to I6 T5 b/h, so I can add some extra thickness to the inside of the b/h to make up for what's machined off

I just need a CAD drawing to get a spacer plate roughed out

If I don't have any luck in the next few days I'll probably just get one from USA

Probably your best bet.

Youve seen the T56 adapter by Twinlight?

http://twinlight.com.au/twinlightgearboxadaptors.html

Seems like a good price for what it is - but I dont know much ;)

I did the Mal Wood conversion and had to use 4-1 headers cause the Tri-Y fouled the starter motor which is now on the other side. Also needed speedo conversion module and shortened tail shaft.

Hope this helps

Thanks. I will be using a left hand starter bellhousing and an adapter plate so starter will be in original location. I am just working through input shaft options atm, which will determine the bellhousing depth. I have 2 different speedo corrector, one from shiftkits and one from muzza. Which did you use? And did you use the original GM speedo sender?
