gday guys, as you may/may not be aware, Im currently in the midst of converting my au series 2 falcon from auto to manual.

As it stands Im up to the bit where the old box is out, and Im swapping the auto engine loom for the manual engine loom. I think on e series you can remove sections and swap bits of the loom out, but this a series loom is all one peice. So Ive had to slowly but surely remove it from under the injectors/fuel rail and the top half of the BBM. very much the epitomy of "bugger of a job".

Ive then spent the better part of the day, and much of my adult vocabulary, in threading the manual loom into position. this manual loom comes from an AU seires 1 xr6. I have it in place and the majority of plugs are done, but there are two giving me grief.

The one that plugs in to the section on the underside of the throttle body, and the one that plugs onto the coil pack. They dont seem to fit, and I am wondering if there are any differences between series 1/2 throttle bodies and coil packs.

thats the million dollar question.

there are also 2 spots for plugs that dont seem to have a mate on the manual loom. on is directly on top of the connector to the main loom, and the other spot blank is on the front side of the TB.

I can take pictures on the morrow for clarification if needed.

might have something to do with the fact that series one is Smartlock and series 2 is Smartshield? not sure though, someone will have to clarify that.

it i definatly a smartshield series 1 (its the update)

darren at FTG made sure of the smartlock/shield issue before selling it to me.

the problem is the coil pack plug and the one underneath the TB.

There is definitely different coil packs for s1 & s2 but until now I didn't realise the loom plug was different. I knew because they use different spark plug leads.

i beleive AU series one coil packs are the same used in the EF, so will have a different plug. Could possibly cut the plug, and wire in the plug from your series 2 loom

i thought this may be the case. Ive found au series 1 and 2 TBs are different, all ebay sites selling bored out TBs have ef-au1, and au2&3 options.

this is a major C**k up, not very happy. you would think FTG auto salvage would know the difference, being a specialist ford wreckers.

I cant cut and swap the loom as its in the engine bay now. in between the fuel rail and injectors and inside the loop of the BBM. Im not taking it out again, that took so much f'ing around to get out and put the manual one in.

besides my skills in electricals are very minimal. wouldnt want to C**k that up too.

thanks for the clear up guys.

you will need to splice your old plugs into the new loom. I thought only the TB plug was different? I thought is was the same plug setup on the coil pack as EF's? Yet another reason i avoided the AU.

My knowledge is limited. but definatly cut and shut your looms to suit. I bet now you have the rest of it in, there is actually bugger all room to work in right?

yes definately sweet FA room to do fidley electronic work when you are a bit of a novice. the coil pack plug is just under the BBM, next to the block. the throttle body plug drops down to about the same level. there are loads of other pipes, hoses and wires under there, effectively making it a hard time to cut and shut some wiring.

what I dont understand is why FTG auto salvage, a site sponsor, sold me a series one kit saying it will fit the au2 no problems, when clearly there are. quite major problems.

ive had a look to see if I can splice these conectors, and Im not sure if its possible.

for instance- the conector to the front of the TB.

series one loom plug wires from left to right- orange- black- green
series two loom plug wires from left to right- orange- green- black

does this mean that if I matched wire to wire, that the plugs will then not correspond with the right one?

really, a series 2/3 manual loom is whats needed, as its just too F'd up trying to sort a series one loom, and its connectors.

Im really at my wits end here. why the hell is the wiring so different. ford engineers must be so underpaid to be this stupid.

do you have a gregorys/haines manual

theyre should be wiring diagrams, and hopefully covers series 1/2/3

OR, get someone to post up a wiring diagram for the series I AU and you should be able to match the wires

Dude - I could be wrong (have been once before, but not that often) but the wires you talk about there are GREEN and BLACK being reversed? As such this makes no difference in this circumstance. Please check with someone who knows for a fact about how your sensors and throttle body operates before following my recommendation....

Anyway, sounds like I should just butt out as I know little about EF's and even less about AU2's.

It's not that complicated a job to take the fuel rail off and / or the whole BBM if you so desire. You can spend half an hour taking the fuel rail out and maybe a bit longer if you're taking the BBM off and then have nice simple access to wiring?

Mate - Stay calm... You'll get there...

sorry mate no manuals to go by.

not that i could read a wiring diagram :P

the whole cluster could be wired wrong, if this plug is wired in a different order to the series 2 one. it all goes back to the connector plug in between inj 5 and 6, and if the order of the wiring is different on the plug, theres a chance it may be different at the main connector. if this is the case then its thrown the whole loom out the window.

really need to speak to darren at FTG, but its a long weekend and they are shut.

There is definitely different coil packs for s1 & s2 & throttle bodie and accessories (ISC, TPS) so the loom would be different....

I supect you have gotten a series 2 loom.

speak to macxr8 off this forum, he's basically rewired his whole EL to AU spec with AU driveline and suspension, so i'd say he'd know the AU wiring inside out :)

you can always refer to the wiring diag on fordforums.com.au they are pretty easy to understand.

You still have your old plugs and loom, you have +,- and earth there, I would suggest kepping them the same. but a wiring diag will be more informative than me.
