No, not using blocks I will check the dimensions this w/end, although I have just spoken to King Springs, and they said there was no difference between the springs, one set was for EF, and the EL's had the oval bushes.
Had the car for a few of months before lowering. I can't see how electrolysis could work so quickly though? I might grab another set of insulating pads and put them on too. All I can say is: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

imo the springs are set wrong(an error by king springs)
i say that because i know of other wagons that are 50mm+ lowered with lowering blocks on std springs and dont have issues with a serious pinion angle or vibrations.. umm the earth strap idea??? ive never heard that one before?

But, like I said above, if the mate says to do it, in this case i will take his word as gospel and pass it on for the good of everyone here.

I have 2.5" blocks in mine and I don't have that sort of vibration at all.
I wonder if the pinion bearing is worn? What about the transmission and engine mounts? Apart from that all I can suggest is t swap in another diff and see if it goes away. Are you sure it is the driveline causing the prob, and not say the harmonic balancer being out of whack? BenJ

I just dont see how it can be anything else, when the problem goes away when he replaces the extension housing bush. The vibration returns after a while, and it would appear that the rear bush is now flogged out again. If the vibe were caused by pinion angle/ride height / unis/ wheels/ tyres/ harmonic balancer/ locating pins / rear gearbox mount or the position of jupiter in uranus, (
)it would remain constant even when changing something else. Wouldn't it? It's friday, why am I thinking so much?

BTW, engine mounts replaced too.
What I am gonna do is raise the rear of the diff by .25" which will equate to a .025' change in the diff angle, and see what happens. Thanks to all that offered info, but i KNOW it is a uni angle problem, and i am just gonna have to work it out Cheers all |

Do you get the vibe with only you in the car, or does it do the same thing with the car loaded?
If it does it regardless of the load in the car, the uni angle will not be the issue, as with a heavy load the angle changes. With the leaf spring rear end, as the diff travels up and down with the suspension, the alignment of the pinion to the horizontal plane remains practically static, unlike a sedan which rotates the differential due to the unequal upper and lower control arms. Having said all this, I do however hope you solve your problem by raising the car. Cheers BenJ

A 1/4" is too small to use a wedge, or are you just going to stick a shim under the back of the spring saddle? I hope this works OK for you, but is still believe you answered your own question when you stated that the vibe dissapears when you replaced the rear gearbox bush.....

I'm going to put a "shim" under the back of the diff plate. The vibe disappears after replacing the rear bush, but comes back after a few days say within 200k's within a week it is back to what it was. |

As I tried to describe, it is a RRRrrrrHHHHHmmm.................RRRRrrrrrHHHHmmm...... type of sound. |

Gonna resurrect this post so that all you doubting Thomases can have the benefit of my experiences:
I have solved the problem (at least for the time being) What I have done is, when replacing the ext housing seal and bush (for the 4th time over the past 6 years) I have lowered the rear of the g'box by about 4mm, by using two washers each side on the topside of the crossmember, VOILA!!!!!! no rumbles, no vibes no nuthin'!!  I reckon it lowered the g'box rear by about 1.0 degrees. So... it must have been the mis-alignment of the uni's, as I have said all along. Maybe others can try this, it worked for me!! |
