So I'm going to be fitting a 5 Speed and AU motor in my ED soon but I need a new clutch! I'm going to be getting an xtreme heavy duty clutch but they have 3 different types!

i have a HD heavy duty organic (cheapest) one behind my 351, xtreme brand, soft pedal (hairdresser style ) and is rated to 450 rwhp. works nice coupled to the xtreme cro mo lightened flywheel. my mum could drive it ha ha
i cant make it slip taking off in third highly recommend

Of you're keeping it NA just get a HD, pedal feel is also pretty light from what I remember. You'll be over a button clutch in no time, and there's no point having it if you don't need it.

Ok no worries
I gather when they say custion button they engage a bit softer? instead of just BANG!

I have had the extreme cushion button in my car for 6 months now and it is very easy to use and even though my car is a standard ef xr8 it is worth every penny and never lets me down.
Took me 2 weeks to get used to it and i would recommend it to anyone. |

It still is a button clutch though, will take a while to get used to and steep hill take offs will be a pain. I hope you don't ever tow anything?

If you go a full button you only have 3 or 4 pucks on the clutch but this one has about 10 spread around the clutch which means it can slip and acts like a normal clutch just with more bite. You can slip it and I have towed trailers and horse floats and you can make takeoffs very smooth.
It is a perfect clutch for everything! I can't stress enough this clutch can be used every day with ease! It's nothing like a button go to the extreme site and look at the difference between the clutches and look as you go more performance you get less clutter h for more bite. |

Just took the standard clutch out of my EL XR6 and have to line up a new one before the motor goes back in. Ive been looking over Xtreme's website, already ruled out the DSBHD as too extreme, but trying to decide between the HD and DCBHD. In my old EA manual, i had a 40% heavier daikin clutch, fine under the foot, but i glazed the disc and it started slipping, so i was sortof leaning toward the DCBHD. Especially after what you said ihatestok. It seems like its the best of both worlds!!
Im picking the clutch based on the power im aiming for, not what i have, as i dont want to have to replace it again. Im hoping for around 150-160kw, daily driver into melbourne but usually dont get too much traffic. I dont mind it being heavy under the foot, as my pedal box was so bent it was like have a super heavy duty clutch, so im used to it. I never tow, but it gets high rpm takeoffs and its fair share of burnouts. Does that seem like the environment a DCBHD clutch would be right in? |

Yeah DCBHD is what i'm running
I recommend changing the clutch cable in these cars if its got one every year or 2. Especially with extractors cause they heat up more than normal. I only comes with a HD pressure plate so its not too heavy. same plate for the HD clutch Kit. But heaps of extra bite when you want it! I wonder if you could match a standard pressure plate up with this clutch how would it go? Very Easy clutch pedal with extra bite? |

Okay that's exactly what i was hoping to hear, good to know from somebody who has one.
I already changed the clutch cable because i thought it was the problem when the pedal box was going, so that should be alright. I think with the higher friction plate, the HD pressure plate would be fine, I've got a mate with the normal Xtreme HD clutch, so I'll see how hard the clutch is in his car so i know what I'm up against. Thanks for letting me know, i know what I'm aiming for now, they're not cheap though!!

I'm no clutch expert, but something to consider is, if you get a clutch plate that bites too much and doesn't have much slip in it, it's probably going to be a lot harsher on your gearbox and diff, so expect those components to fail. In other words it might be worth running a standard clutch plate rather and just realising that you'd have to change it more frequently because that is less costly than rebuilding gearbox and diff.

The problem i was having with my no name HD clutch was if you took off very hard with a new set of Dunlop 3000A's in the dry i found that sometimes my foot would be off the clutch and the engine would be revving, the tyres weren't spinning.......... Then the smell of burning clutch...The weak point. So i put the xtreme clutch in and the clutch never slipped again...... Then i put some Eagle F1 ASYM tyres on and the grip is amazing and i can load up the clutch beautifully. Which means with the extra force now going through my drive train, what will break next?????? |
