It was the O2 sensor :-)

, Changed it today and the car now seems to run a lot better!

Before you change fuel filter, remove the fuel pump fuse under the bonnet. Start the car and let the engine die out. This relieves the fuel pressure in the lines. No fuel splashing / spillage.
