If you are rebuilding your engine I could be tempted to wait and see.

My 250 XD(Alloy heads, EFI Manifolds etc) had a 200, and L series converter. Once it was rebuilt it started a lot quicker (better vacuum?)

Other than that - a primer sounds like the go.
