Normal for AC comp to activate when fan is turned on?

noticed the AC comp fires up when I click the climate control fan on. This happens even though the AC buttons on the unit are off (eg, i want the fans, not the full AC running)

Im under the impression this is not right? any help?

if your demisting the front window it will come on.

when you say demisting, AC off with the dial to demist?
