Hi guys,
well, the 250 2V seems to think now is a good time for an engine change - its still running as hard as ever but oil pressure, which used to be 40 psi at idle and about 55 when driving, all of a sudden has decided to drop to 35 and 40 psi tops.... So, I'm looking for a new motor and a low km XF motor has come up - the question is will it bolt up to my single rail 4 spd in an XB? NOTE the motor is by itself - no trans so I can't just ` use the box that came with it' ALSO, the car it came out of was a front end hit, so apparently the pulleys and alternator are damaged - other than simply replacing these bits should i be worried? Any chance of crank or other internal damage??

F**k its a long time since I've heard any body mention a 2V 250. I think they had the separate intake manifold didn't they? They were supposed to be pretty good (for their time).
As for the trans bolting up to it I can't see a problem, but I'd double check it with others, perhaps even a trans specialist as they should know. As for damage to the engine it is possible its damaged the crank or even the timing cover. Depends on how hard it was hit.

yeah thanks for that - as you say, they were good in the day 170 hp, seperate intake (mine has a 500 holley) - were well known back in the day to be quicker than most v8s off the first 100 yards - yeah, maybe a stock v8, but tell u what, have won many a traffic light war with it, esp against believe it or not Skylines - by the time the hair dryer spools up I'm gone....

The Crossflow motors bolt up straight on - nice and easy. Same flywheel, clutch etc should be fine.
I used to hear talk about front-enders having the water-pump punch through the #1 cylinder.... It never happened that I saw though so thats not so bad. Would take the time to look it over sans water pump. Theres also a chance of course that if the engine pulley is bent that the crank, or bearings have taken a fair whack of additional loads that they werent designed for. Is the oil pressure change due to different oil?? Nigel |

Yeah thanks for that Nigel - good to know they will bolt up ... I wish oil pressure change was due to something like a change of oil, but not tha case unfortunately - there are plenty other `its about to die' type symptoms - very rattly in the morning, a bit smoky, lots of nice piston slap noises at 2500 rpm, etc etc - I've just been trying to squeeze the last few kays out but the oil pressure drop I think is the last nail being slowly hammered in....

Rebuild the 250 ?? It's a shame to see these old engines go...Keep as a "classic"... They can be rebuilt with ACL race series parts for under $1k...

yep, good point - I will be rebuilding the 2v but need something to keep the wheels turning in the interim as the coupe is my only transport - I'd like to go a bit crazy on it with a toyota blower and lower comp....all running on lpg.....
