You can buy a HM exchange engine for less then that, with a pretty good nation wide warranty. That said I'm doing an AU engine that including R&R is going to be a tad over $4000. {USERNAME} wrote: A true total without cutting corners (like re-using an oil pump) will most likely change your mind. The oil pump I find generally isn't something that needs to be replaced on these engines, strip, inspect, measure. Put the pressure relief spring in a valve spring tester to find out if it is still in spec and shim it as needed. Some high mileage engines or engines run on s**t oil will show wear in the pump. I have heard HM Gem are rubbish. A fair few people who have used thier engines and services have said not so good things about them. Maybe not so much these days, I don't know. They were a consideration for me (before I decided to attack it myself) as they are local until everyone I spoke to said No. What sort of work are you doing in this rebuild, if you dont mind me asking. Is that including removal instalation?

ACL kits come with timing chain. HM Gem are, well, inconsistant. But a motor is not really something you want to be hit and miss with is it..
Get your block inspected and then order pistons to suit. I had an ED block to go into an EF coon, 500,000+ km on it, was inspected and found only a home was needed!! Standard pistons and rings were fine. Just because I used 30cc dishtops.... But if you never intend on boosting it, go some flat tops and get them butterflied to suit.

It's just a re-ring re-bearing deal. It started a head job as it had some burnt exhaust valves. We found the chain guides all through the sump |
