trip meter in el fairmont reseting?

my clock in the trip meter resets everytime i turn the car on and off,
is there a constant power wire meant to be run to it?
i havent looked at it yet just wondering if anyone knows why its doing it?

Have a read of {DESCRIPTION}. It covers installing a trip computer but it also has the wiring info that should help.
