hey guys im new and im re building my engine and auto , ive got a 94 xr6 gunmetal grey and am thinking of putting extractors pacemakers and luckiey exhaust system with stiffer valve springs and port polish and unichip later on.

Any ways with these mods i was wondering about my BTR 4 speed and was reading the july streed machine FORDS mag and it had a artical on a guy that works on these 4 speeds.

any ways he claims that he playes around with the s5 solinoid and makes it shift smoother and faster, he also says how by doing just this the BTR can handel 300rwhp.

i havnt called them yet because im not going to start all this work for another 3 mounths but was wondering if any one knows about this and has any advice.

if any one is intrested in the mv stage 1 kit thim selves the number is
(02) 8370 0430 mike vidau mv automatices.

also can any one give me any info on the whitline kits ?

thanks guys great read for ford E series drivers.

Yeah, there are two kinds of shift kits. Mechanical and electronic.

The electronic shift kit costs about $10 (right up to) $160, and they all work on the same principal. They can be turned on/off.

The mechanical shift kits (from mv auto) are a little more expensive and do much the same thing. They cannot (easily) be turned on/off. But the street machine artical quotes mike as saying that the mechanical kit is somehow better. ?

MV Automatics say that the electronic method isn't as good as there Stage 1. No real reasoning given why. But for the price difference why not try the electronic one first!

The reason is that with an electronic one, the internals of the box arent changed at all. There for torque converters and the like cop a hammering from the hard shifting. With a mechaniccal one they beef up all the stuff that needs to be.

and then i assume they up the line pressures the same way that everyone else does ($10 of parts from d**k smith!!) not sure bout that one!! :P

my Transmissions guy informs me that the s5 solenoid actually has an adjustment screw that alters the shift without any kits etc. He advised me to turn the screw in 5 minutes to increase shift positiveness.

Yep the screw is only on au and newer. Putting a au s5 into a older btr seams to be a very commin thing to do.

The $10 electrical shift kit is well worth it... gives you a nice crisp gear change. In my car it causes it to chirp second too.

If you are gonna do anything like this tho it is probably best to have the gearbox serviced and new oil put in it to make sure that it is less likely to stuff up.

Id say that doing anything mechanical to the gearbox would be slightly pointless unless you were running a forced air induction setup...
