Pretty sure I had all the fingers collapse on the clutch on my XH today; either way it's f**k. To top it off the headgasket has just let go externally. The question is: do I remove the engine or the gearbox to repair both? Would love to do the bottom end but finances prohibit this (mainly because I would get carried away and create something that I couldn't drive to work everyday
 )
Whats your thoughts?

only takes a few hours to do the clutch , i would do that first then the headgasket , to remove the whole lot is just creating more work than required

What a pig of a job!!!
 Man now I know why I pay other people to do this s**t and I don't work in the trade anymore. Got the box in, but not lining up with spiggot bearing. Used clutch aligning tool etc. might have moved in trying to get box back in. Lost interest. might finish tomoro....might not too...need to calm down before I kill someone......hate lying underneath cars......
End rant (till tomoro when I have another go)

If you're not already doing this:
Use a trolley jack to support and wheel the g/box in, also to lower/raise it. Rotate the output shaft shaft to make the input shaft line up, etc. Easy does it, and you'll make it . . . .

yay!!!! got the bastard back together tonight. Problem turned out to be a misaligned clutch. REPCO will be getting their u-buet gee-whiz multi fit clutch aligning tool back...thru their f**k window
. We made a tool out of one of those plastic aligning tools you buy for 6 bucks that are clutch specific (haven't seen them available for years  ). The one we used come from a sigma; we ground the splines off which let it fit snug in the clutch plate, then bvuilt the spiggot bearing end up with insulation tape.  Simple and worked an absolute treat. Put the 80/90 gear oil in it and it changes gears like a knife thru butter...
Anyway thought I would post a pic of the old diaphragm...think it's been a bit warm......

Also forgot to thank all the people that replied in the thread about which oil to put in the box. I used 80/90 and the thing shifts like a knife thru butter
I absolutely love it!!!
