What's wrong with all the other proven ECU's that are out there? Motec, EMS, Haltech, Megasquirt ...

Thats not a "plug in" ECU, its a "wire in" interceptor.

That is correct. But still good for changing the fuel map and ignition map, plus NOS, extra injectors, turbo/super charging, all with using a laptop.

..and like all interceptors - money is better spent on a real ECU
Dont waste money on smoke and mirrors!

Dont waste money on smoke and mirrors! What do the other ECU's do that the interceptors don't???? I'd like to know.

They run the engine using the paramaters setup by the tuner, as opposed to trying to 'trick' the factory ECU.

From what I gather with the interceptor, is that it adds to what the ECU is puting out, in percentages, and at different load and throttle position, and engine rpm's. I currently have a JMM unit in my 88EA and it works great, just have to tweek it some more. Saves me having to go to a dyno, ( theres only one here, and run by a moron ).

So what happens when the ECU discovers that the engine isnt performing as it expects (due to the altered signals) ? It begins to compensate, and your % based interceptor tune is inaccurate.

If you're street tuning your interceptor, there's no reason why you cant street tune a real ECU. You get the same outcome; a potentially unsafe tune. Also, by street tuning, you're not getting the best tune out of your car.. defeating the purpose of spending money on engine management. I dont see why people spend $1000's on smoke and mirrors when there's ECU's like the megasquirt that are available cheaper which will run the entire engine to spec, or commercial variants which cost the same, or a bit more (depending on feature lists) than an interceptor system.
