Hi there people
Just needing some help as i have just purchased a 98 fairlane Ghia V8 and it has blow 3 oil fliter seal. Each time the engine has not had the chance to warm up. At first i thought the oil fliter was lose. replace with new one. Then the second time clean the seat on the block with a fine wet and dry and checked the male pipe for tightness. No problem there. Have any of you had this problem before or hear of it and what else can it be? Can anyone help me out. It is not good having this power if i can use it . ![]() Cheers |

maybe try using gasket glue on the seal when you put it on.

What brand of filter are you using and what does the oil pressure gauge in your car show before it blows? Are you putting a smear of oil or grease on the seal before fitting to make sure the seal doesnt pick up and spit out as you do it up? Sorry mate just trying to rule out the obvious first!

Sometimes the simple thing are just missed out on.
Valoline and now Cooper and yes smear of oil on the seal . The oil pressure gauge is showing high to start with then drops down to just above half. |

You are using a Z9 arent you?
Was going to say there could be an old seal stuck to the face from the last filter, but then i seen you said you cleaned it with wet n dry. That is a common thing to happen.

Maybe the oil pump relief valve is sticking on startup, spiking the oil pressure? I'm not sure if it holds the pressure on the oil filter side first or not.

As the gauge only show 0 - 7 that all i can tell you All i can think of is it probably is a sticking releif valve if it skyrockets to max pressure on startup.Maybe its gunked up from not getting frequent oil changes or maybe someones messed around with it. Standard oil pumps cant produce that much pressure coz the releif valve should drop it down.

well it looks like i will have to try a lower grade of oil to start with and see how that go's .
When you's are talking about the oil pressure relief valve are you's referring to the one locate in the oil pump itself or am i missing where another one is ???? |
