hello,
has anyone ever installed one of those mezieres elec water pumps, specifically on a AUXR8. are there real benefits for the cost ~$600 ? i have heard 10-15rwkw increase, plus of course fuel econ. bad things are reliablity and need good battery.

I don't know what they're like, but the gains you get can be taken away by extra drag on the Alternator to keep up the Volts/Amps required to run the pump. Again is it worth it???? Might be the go for a burnout car, where you don't want the pump doing bulk RPM and cavitating.

What is the amperage draw of one of those water pumps??? Look at how much the Alt drags when you turn the head lights on.

remembering of course its just an electric motor, which eventually will burn out, and will be costly to replce, as opposed to the 'ole belt driven pump. mezieres state a life of 3000+ hours. hard to calculate in real time. avergae speed of 60kmh at 25000 km a year = 400+ hours a year. should get 7-8 years out of it. what a nerd!!
i guess the question i have to ask myself is "how keen am i for that 10-15rwkw? still a good forum thread

i wouldnt recommend the davies craig pumps, 4 mates have used them and they leak out the box. davies craig did replace them no questions asked though,even then 2 of the replacement pumps leaked. i personally use a moroso electric waterpump drive on my 67 xr fairmont,no dramas and cheap too $150,has been going 6 years as a weekend cruiser.

youre right that 15rwkw is a outlandish claim. the benefit would be a higher RPM's where drag on belt driven is at its most sacrificial. those high rpm's may be for drag cars - 8 - 9K rpms. for a street car benefit may not be as great. but the general principle seems warranted - belt driven needs engine power to run, and i'm sure it would be heaps more than load on alternator. there would be a benefit but how much- unsure, and probably not worth the cost.

I think the benifit is not in teh hp gain but the longevity of teh engine
no need for water to be pumping around when it is cold and on a hot day you can have the pump set up to keep pumping for say 5 mins after shutdown to help stop heat soak! hell u can even run the fans for 5 mins as well and no it will not drain the battery

don't you love it when you answer your own question i spent the day today, fitting a CVR elec pump to a 5L VT commodore. and from driving befor and after, i could not tell the difference. it felt no faster then befor the pump. temp was rock steady though. |

The Mezeire pumps would have to be the best available, that's why there so expensive.
The main advantage for an electric pump is not HP gain, it is cooling system efficiency. The water pump can turn constant rpm, therefore constant coolant flow regardless of engine speed. Makes the entire cooling system more efficient. Any hp gain is minimal, but still a gain is a gain. Some Mezeire pumps allow the stndard serpentine belt to remain on the engine, with an idler pulley in place of the water pump pulley. When fitted it all looks stock.
