Does anybody know if an AU remote can be programmed in to an XH ute(1998)?

If it's an AUI smartlock keyfob, and not smartshield, then yes.

How can I tell if it is AU1? Will it look the same as the XH unit? The AU unit I have is fitted with 4 buttons and is much thicker than the XH unit. Any ideas? Thank you.

Sounds like it's a smartshield unit.
