If the car is an automatic and you don't want to bother with a Hi-stall, I'd stay around the 210-216 duration on a 114-116 LCA. Comp Cams XE264HR is a nice auto camshaft, the XE270 Tony mentioned we have found to be just a little large without a flash tune of some sort. OK for a manual though.
Fit a set of adjustable rockers as well, you won't get away with 1.7s (without going to a dual spring)along with a decent spring, retainer and pushrod package. Honestly I'd expect you'll be paying somewhere around $2000 or more to get this into the car and running. Here is a quick run down: Camshaft $575 Roller rockers: $700 Crow springs & retainers: $245 2 Row timing set: $125 Timing cover gasket set: $28 Valve cover gaskets: $25 Oil & filter: ~$50 Labour: $600-1000

wouldn't they be the same tho.. so if someone else has fitted gt40p heads did they use the standard pushrods or different size ones??
i'll be doing all the labor myself or with my old man.. how much of a difference is there going to be if i left the standard rockers?? i'm going to talk to chris at bluepower tommorrow and see what he has to say...

I run early windsor heads on my 5.0 that have been machined to fit 7/16 studs, fitted with roller rockers and so on, the pushrods are still the standard length that were fitted as e7 stock (yes geometry has been checked). While its my opinion only, that its easy to get caught up in it all, at the end of the day the cams particualry of the shelf are made to suit the standard engine type with little to no difference in valve train components, particuarly the cams you are looking at. In saying that you always take the manufacturers recommendations which in most cases is upgrade springs (for mild im talking) and always check geometry which is a must do when ever changing cam. I personally dont think you will have a problem with pushrod length or using the rockers that are fitted to your engine providing of course your lift etc. remains relatively mild.
Rockers wont make any difference to power, unless you upgrade to 1.7 which will alter lift. |

thanks for the help guys! i had a bit of a think about it all and seeing as the car is only a daily basher and not a show or drag car i think i'm going to go with a tickford/crow 200kw cam.
should give it a bit more balls and still have resonable economy. if i where keeping the car for a while i would be doing it all properly with a bigger cam, rockers etc.

I used the standard length pushrods on mine, but was going to shim the standard rockers if I were to get into trouble. No such trouble to report from my shed as yet. If I blow it up, thats an excuse for a good bottom end and some alloys down the track for my wagon.

When you compare the specs on the Tickford cams and stock HO ones, there is like almost, to no diference in lift, only duration seems to be different, and again, only by a small amount.
Is it worth doing the Roller Lifters when changing the cam? more importantly, do you have to?

roller lifter dont have to be changed when doing a cam swap unless there worn out

looks like i'm going to wait until after xmas until i get the cam.. i would have ended up rushing it and this way i can decide what i really want to get. its to hard trying to organise stuff right before christmas!
